Yeah, rap and metal had their shining moment of harmony right there, even if Flavor Flav and Scott Ian are both goobers. If only the two genres had parted ways afterwards.
Except then we wouldn't have Rage...
I can't decide if losing Rage would be a fair trade to be spared Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, and the rest of that sorry bunch.

No, they can't. They're working double shifts all weekend at Circuit City.
From the comments on youtube:
Is this you, science boy?
That is not me. This is the only place on the internet where I post anything, and besides, I'm a nice guy. I wish Shania no harm or discomfort, I just don't want to hear her try to sing country, or countrified rock, any more.
I don't care if someone likes Warrant...doesn't bother me...but...
Hell Motherfuckin' No! That is horrible horrible shit. Who said they could do that!!! Who God Damnit! WHOOOOO!
Not that it's really a big deal or anything. :whistlin:
It may be Queen's worst song, but that doesn't mean Warrant should be allowed to put their filthy mitts on it. It's just like when Limp Bizkit covered the Who's worst song, 'Behind Blue Eyes'. Sickening.

In all honesty, I really did like the Dixie Chicks last album. None of the other ones; just that one. I listened to it for about 3 months... Oh, and I like Jenny Lewis, even if her music can be a little affected.
Shania Twain in terminally linked, in my mind, to the convenience store job I had in college...

The Chicks are honestly one of the best mainstream country acts going. They shouldn't be, but they are. Jenny's cool; I liked her album with the Watson Twins. I'm not so sure about the new Rilo Kiley album.
I live close enough to Nashville to pick up most of their radio stations, and most of their country stations are awful- almost exclusively Top 40, with an occasional standby from the '70's or '80's. Even the most popular non-mainstream country artists, like Lucinda Williams, Wilco, or Steve Earle, get no airtime except on the rock and progressive stations. Hell, Brighteyes is more country than most of what gets played on Nashville country stations these days.
As far as I can tell, there is no classic country station to complement the classic rock and oldies stations. Now I'd listen to that; I'm a sucker for Hank, Ernie, Patsy, Johnny, Waylan, Tanya, Loretta, and the rest. Mainstream country got real real bad at the end of the '70's, and it hasn't really recuperated since.

Yeah, I like Wilco on and off too---I really love Airplane to Heaven...and I'm not even religious! ;)
To be honest, I'm not so big into that old stuff. I probably should be...I'd probably like it. The authentic pathos in some of it is probably slit-your-wrist good...if that makes sense.
Give it a shot! I think the traditional path for rockers into old country is via the 'outlaw' country guys- Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Waylan Jennings, Merle Haggard, David Allan Coe, etc.

Aw, some of their songs were good. Anyways, the whole point of Nirvana was the energy and emotion in their music. I agree, as musicians or as songwriters they can't stand up to many of their contemporaries, and they became way more popular than they should have been, but that's no reason to call them a bad band.

I like these bands too, but if you're talking about songwriting, AIC had some real stinkers. But again, like Nirvana, the words are not that important with that kind of band.
Pearl Jam has been pretty consistently good. I for one would like to never hear 'Jeremy' or 'Alive' again, however. Or their cover of that car-wreck song.

Ha! Agree on both counts! AIC's Jar of Flies is one of my favorite albums because it has a coherent theme and one that's important to me (the individual vs. the group mind). Facelift, on the other hand... I don't know what's going on.

Yeah, but then why does Godsmack or Disturbed get called Nu-Metal? Or RATM doesn't? Disturbed said themselves they aren't metal anymore, they're hard rock, and Godsmack is sort of post-grunge, but are in pretty much the same category.
Frick, we need some people to sit down, like they did with the music genome project, and just figure out the genres, or if not that, strip the genres back to basics: Rock, Country, Hip hop, Blues, Jazz, and Classical. Pop isn't a genre, because it's just the simplified version of whatever music style is "in" and "mainstream" at that time; Punk started out as an antithesis of pop, therefore it's not a genre either, even if you go the route of it's developed into it's own sound, it's never really been more than unskilled and technically bad garage rock, with few bands transcending that, but mostly just ending up in "rock" anyways, again, negating it. Metal could be it's own genre, but it can be really easy to have the line blurred. Did I miss a major one?

Pop isn't a genre, because it's just the simplified version of whatever music style is "in" and "mainstream" at that time; Punk started out as an antithesis of pop, therefore it's not a genre either, even if you go the route of it's developed into it's own sound, it's never really been more than unskilled and technically bad garage rock, with few bands transcending that, but mostly just ending up in "rock" anyways, again, negating it. Metal could be it's own genre, but it can be really easy to have the line blurred. Did I miss a major one?
