So - been reading here for some time, first time posting... I've been working on some short auto-bio pieces lately just for fun... thoughts? Comments? Blind hatred? Anything but yawning apathy? [smirk]

Either way, thanks for looking (there may be a couple sweary type words in here - read at your own discretion)...

Welcome to Digital Webbing!

I'm a sucker for auto-bio/slice of life type comics (assuming they're done well), and I've got to say I really liked both of these. You've got a very distinct, consistant style and really clean storytelling. These reminded me of Copybook Tales, and that's a compliment in my book. :)

Looking forward to seeing more. Are you publishing them online anywhere?

Awesome. The fact that it's Canadian really hits home.

I remember going to the store and buying my first comic book, Classic X-Men #1, and a Cream Soda. I went home and read it cover to cover probably 3 times and then pulled out some paper and a pencil and started copying John Bolton and Dave Cockrum. The next comic I bought was X-Men #212, I think. That was the start of the Mutant Massacre and the start of my X-Men obsession.

Well done. I love this kind of stuff. Makes me want to do one.

hey this looks pretty cool, except I think I'm missing a few pages. I got a couple of red X's, so they probably didn't load for some reason.....

edit- Now they loaded! Like I said, pretty cool stuff.

Welcome to Digital Webbing!
Thank you kindly... [smirk]

Wow - that is high praise indeed (strangely enough, when I started the first comic-related one, I'd actually never read Copybook - was only mildly aware of it. Ironic that I had a John Byrne cover be my first comic when that book is so strangely (and brilliantly) obsessed with Byrne [smirk].

Looking forward to seeing more. Are you publishing them online anywhere?
I am in the process of updating my website (www.industri-studios.com (http://www.industri-studios.com)) and will have these on the site soon (also working on one a little more current still, and plan to do another short one from my childhood... glad you like 'em... I've been doing stuff loosely based on parts of my life for some time now, it seemed only prudent I finally get around to actually telling my OWN life (if I'm cribbing it for ideas already LOL).

Awesome. The fact that it's Canadian really hits home.
I got tired of hiding my Canadian-ness after a while (I used to loosely refer to "the city" etc)... but there's enough knowledge of Toronto that I feel pretty comfortable at this point (I mean if Scott Pilgrim can hang out in Honest Ed's, there's no reason I can't spend quarters with moose heads on them).

Classic X-Men #1, and a Cream Soda
There's something about having bought your first comic at the same place you bought pop, rented movies and your parents bought cigarettes that's somehow lost in the modern comic shop. Whether that's good or bad I'll never know [GRIN].

Well done. I love this kind of stuff. Makes me want to do one.
Then do it... seriously... it's been a pretty fun little experiment. I do political cartoons normally, so it was fun to try something different. I'm also normally a crazy panel diversity guy, so I intentionally locked the panels... it's just an experiment, but one I've been happy with... and I say if you wanna do it - just do it (to crib the aforementioned Nike).

in the shoes one it saids 1992 age 15.... but in panel 5 it saids you were in the 11th grade.... so shouldnt u be 16 or 17... not 15...
To enter any grade, you have to be the age for that grade (16 for eleven) by the end of the calendar year (half way through the school year). My birthday is later in the year, so in the Fall of 1992 - I was 15, just entering grade 11... this was a month or so in when I was on my first or second paycheck from my new job working in a video game store (coolest high school gig ever, IMHO - expect a piece on that, eventually, too...).

LOVE LOVE LOVE them clean lines. Very easy to read, good work !
Thanks a lot - it's nice to hear that the ease and flow are there, it's something I'm always uncertain about (seeing as, when you write it - you KNOW how it's supposed to flow so it's harder to spot the hiccups...).

edit- Now they loaded! Like I said, pretty cool stuff.
Phew! If they were crashing, it'd be the same domain as my email server and website - wouldn't want to see THAT happening [smirk].

Thanks all for the kind words - it really makes doing this seem more worthwhile (y'know, cuz it means people might actually be READING the stuff [GRIN]).

Cheers!

Nice rat tail. I Like how the hair style changes for the time periods.

I really like this. I could easily relate to almost all of them. The last one about the girl really hit close to home. Man, hindsight is twenty-twenty. You never realize that your missing out on something until years later. Sucks, but that's life. Anyway, I liked this. Your art is very stylish. I like the expressions on the main character (I guess that'd be you), but he always looks so sad. It makes me sad to see him sad. Maybe show one with more smiling so I can have hope :). I'm just messing. Nice stuff on the website as well. Keep it up.

Nice work. Reminds me of Rick Geary. My only crit would be to think a little more about design with regards to your lettering. The way the copy is spotted in places isn't "wrong" ( captions at the bottom - that sort of thing ), but it seems like an afterthought, especially because you seem conscious and careful about placement in a great many places.

I don't care much for autobiographical stuff, but this is first-rate.

this has a total " the wonder years" feel about it. I love this stuff because no matter what it's the universal teen drama we all go through and all can relate to.

I rarely take the time to read peeps sequential pages here. But you've caught my attention in no time!!

Thanks for sharing.

Nice rat tail. I Like how the hair style changes for the time periods.

Thanks - the next piece I'm doing is the first with my dyed black hair (feels a lot more like "me" since it's still black LOL)... and the pony tail.

Ah the 90s [smirk]... (and my rat tail was really that long... YIKES!)

Thanks... my misery apparently makes for good reading LOL! I'll be sure to do something happier real soon... I just think of anything worth reading in that vein at the moment... even something that SHOULD be good (a first kiss, perhaps)... was a disaster LOL. I'll smile soon, honest [smirk].

Thanks, I think (were rat tails EVER cool? Really?)... and I'm a big auto-bio fan, so I'll keep an eye open for your posts...

It's funny - it wasn't until I looked at it here (once I'd posted it) that I was really feeling (with this one especially) that it was a tad cramped. I may add a few more panels in for breathing room... but it's something I'd noticed too - thanks for keeping me honest [GRIN]. I've got a follow up coming shortly that (hopefully) fixes some of this...

And thanks for the Rick Geary comparison... I hadn't looked at his stuff in quite some time, but this sorta reminded me I should peruse his site. The man is in need of a web redesign, but his art is top notch. Cheers!

Wow - The Wonder Years - I can think of few higher praises... seriously. Thanks for that... and thanks for taking the time to read.

The next one (a short two-pager) should (sadly) ring true with a few artist types here... anyone who grew up in the Image-flooded 90s trying to improve their drawing...

Great really relatable work. I'd love to see more.
I second that motion.

Appreciated. More coming in a couple days... a shorty-but-goodie LOL!

Thanks again, everyone, for reading... I appreciate any and all feedback!

Wow - thanks. A huge compliment, to be sure...

I've had a slight delay (a computer meltdown) - hence no new pages by the end of last week... however, I was able (with a borrowed machine) to fix and finish the revised version of the previous 3-page story.

As the word balloons were crowding the images, and the story felt hurried - I've added a page and spread the text out (also tweaked a few things I was less happy with). Thoughts, comments etc on the changes certainly appreciated.
