This December, Image Comics will publish an anthology featuring characters you haven't seen in a very long time. "The Next Issue Project" will showcase top talent from the world of comics reimagining Golden Age characters that have fallen into the public domain. But it's not quite as simple as that - the series will literally publish the next issue of a great golden age book, with modern interpretations of Golden Age super heroes.

So is everyone going to fight over these characters in the public domain now?

Ross and Kruger are already doing a series based on many of these characters from the Golden Age no one owns for Dynamite. How many of these characters are out there before they start tripping over each other?

Doesn't really matter if they trip over each other as the entire point of public domain is that no one can lay exclusive claim to the characters.

No one will be "tripping" over anything.

Erik Larsen already stated that when you use public domain characters then you change them slightly you would now own that character. So, anyone could use these characters then change them slightly.

Also, if you haven't already read Terra Obscura. Nedor characters used by Alan Moore. ;)
