All those that remember the format of the 2006 tournament need to just forgot those rules. That tournament was too time consuming so I'm going to a new format.

This year, there is a simple single elimination tournament. Round 1 will has 93 participants. Those 93 will be divided into 7 groups of 10 and 3 groups of 9. Each group will pass the 5 top vote getters into Round 2 for a grand total of 50 participants in Round 2. Round 2 will have 5 groups of 10 which will be reduced down to 20.

After Round 2 there will be a break for all active participants for the San Diego Con. During this time, inactive participants will have a chance to re-enter the tournament via the re-entry Round. The re-entry round will allow up to 10 inactive participants to re-enter the tournament.

Round 3 will feature 30 total participants. These 30 will be pared down to 10.

After Round 3 there will be a pause for yet another re-entry Round. During this re-entry all inactive participants can participate for 6 open slots in Round 4.

Round 4 begins with 16 and will trimmed down to 8 for Round 5. Round 5 will bring that 8 down to 4. Those for will get a break for the final re-entry round. This re-entry round will one again be available to ALL inactive participants for a chance at 2 open spots in the final round of 6.

Round 6 will be the final winner takes all round. The winner will be declared by the end of round 6.

The schedule of Rounds is as follows.

The basic rules are
- you have to have registered to participate
- you have to post your art in the correct thread on time to be added to the poll
- voting is open as long as the poll is open
- polls entries are set up in the order the art is posted
- only the top vote getters will go on to the next round
- in the event of the tie, the art that was posted first will go on to the next round
- groups are randomly assigned
- all art must be newly created within the time period spefically for the draw off tournament
-old art posted as tournament art will lead to immediate disqualification

Rules for the re-entry rounds ...
Re-entry will be based on your entire performance. Much like Nascar, you will receive points for your placement in every round. The participants with the highest points after the re-entry round voting will be allowed to re-enter the tournament.

Points are awarded as follows.
100 point 1st place
80 points 2nd place
70 points 3rd place
50 points 4th place
-5 point for each place after 4th (45 for 5th, 40 for 6, 35 for 7, etc)
All participants that complete art in each Round will be awarded at least 1 point for that round.

I will update the point standings after every round.

Prizes:
First place will be any 2 TPBs of their choice mailed to them.
The top finisher in the points race (who is not the first place winner) will get 2 TPBs for their choice as well.

How, very comprehensive...
Will there be specifics per each round, such as "pencil only" or "color only"?

L Jamal
06-30-2007, 12:23 AM
There will be no specifics, you can do what you do and do it to the best of your abilities. As I mentioned in the other thread, this year will be a mixture of assignments including sequentials.

question.. actually 2.

What's TPBs?
&
Will there be mutiple choice polls as featured in the blitz draw-offs, or standard one vote per person?

L Jamal

TPBs are trade paper backs (collected comic book stores).

Speaking of prizes... I was talking to Press Oblivion, you know last year's winner. And he said he never got his prizes for winning last year. I believe the prizes he was suppose to get was a copy of something called Waramegedon and a $50 gift card for mile high comics. So you may want to contact him to get those out, he said he wrote on here but never heard back from ya.

I don't recall what the prize was last year, but it definitely wasn't anything from Mile High or Warmageddon. I make a point to separate my stuff from DW prizes. If Press wants to contact me, he can PM me about it. I'm not even sure if there were prizes last year.

I'm going to bail too. Not because of commitments, well maybe some, but because I don't want to make it so hard on you guys this year. I mean you barely kept up with me for 4 rounds. Sheesh.

This is pretty damn cool. Aspiring to pro. I really liked mysterionB (Tellos) and dano (TMNT) 's posted work. dano's told a story. I would be drawn to buy a comic with that cover and I loved the fox Tellos thief. He looked perturbed and having stolen things in my life I know that look.

Good competition! Wow nice entries...

But, if the top 5 of each group in round 1 move on to round 2, why isnt this multiple choice?

We could have voted for the five we like the most. I know some groups didnt get as many pics as others...and I realize its to late now, but I wanted to vote for my second thru 5th favorites as well!

Good jobs all around, Big up's too everyone who made it!

Biofungus
07-15-2007, 05:15 PM
Really? You think so? Even with my craptacular piece?

I found the Zot group the hardest to decide. I agree with MysterionB though. If it was the top 5 in each group that moved on, then it should have been multiple votes.

DarkKni9hT
07-16-2007, 12:14 AM
I think the single votes wil work out just fine. If it's multiple votes, things would get into too many ties and close seconds to be decided by first post. If everyone votes for their single fave in each group, then it seems more likely that the winner will be the best piece overall.

Kudos to all who made the deadline. Some really nice work out there. Best to those moving on.

Thats interesting I think that 'too many ties and close seconds' is subjective and is more likely with single ballots, as fewer votes are being spread around, so there's less likely a tiebreaker being given up.

Of course its too late but since we were looking for the 'top 5' not just the "best piece overall" voting should reflect the top five posts not just the number one.

I loved seeing all the great work!! I hope to survive to see what's next!!!

Btw, I hope everybody's warming up, because if you notice, the second phase of the draw off is only a few days! So once it's a go, time is of the essence! On top of that, I'm not taking pity on the participants by holding off the Blitz Draw-off either :p

For some reason I thought the post date was the 15th, not the 14th. I was busy all week/weekend and didn't get to even check 'til yesterday.

Actually, may initial thought was to do a Marilyn type image with Dean blowing up Liberty's skirt with a hair dryer or something. Then I saw a nearly identical cover by Cho and had to come up with another image. Hence the Coppertone girl.
if ya weren't late, it would have been no harm us having the same idea. It would have been interesting to compare the two. Post it up here for us.
Sorry to see you go. I got knocked out last year in exactly the same fashion. Misread the deadline by a day and was too late to post. Sucks, but the dates are well documented.

haha, I had the same Marilyn idea first too, until I saw Cho's! too funny. I need to get off your wavelength.
the date thing was my own fault. I had the image done, but wasn't satisfied with it, so I put off posting it and then the week went by and I didn't get it fixed or up.
