It's home, my son loves it, and is being worked on. :har:
In case you didn't see it before. (Sans Craig)
As far as progress goes:
I've got new freeze plugs put in, new rotor for the distributor, new coil, and I ordered the complete repair guide from Chrysler for this model of car.
It has everything in it. It turns out the top of the car wasn't as important as I thought it was. The frame is where the majority of the support is, much like a true convertible. This isn't the case in most cars.
I'm in the process of putting together a complete wiring loom replacing the current electrical system.
Since I don't have keys for it, I'm going to put a series of single pull - single throw switches, and a push button in line with the ignition system. That way the car will only start if you know the combination the switches need to be in and push the button that will be hidden.

Also I meant to tell Craigandgadetguy that my brother has been working on his Jeep.
Here's an update of it.

It looks like he's enjoying the heck out of that Jeep. I'm glad to see he's putting some effort into it! Nice going Vea.
The kid in the project car picture just rocks. I wasn't much older than that when my neighbor started his Studebaker project. It was a dull red color, and a burn victim. He never got much further with it than pulling the engine (where the fire took place). The Dukes of Hazzard had just begun on Friday nights on CBS, and his son Robbie and I were Bo and Luke Duke in that thing! Even had my dad give me an old CB mike he'd swapped out of one of his rigs. Those were some great memories, thanks!
Spent today stripping down some more of the Harley. For the record, I wish ill will and violence of all kinds on the inventor of Allen and Torx head screws. (Jeeps have Torx everywhere, and have cost me more shredded skin than a man has a right to pay)

Wow, those original Ebay photos didn't do this car justice. That looks like an excellent specimen for a rebuild Jon. Plus the original V8 decal's still on the front... droooooool... I'm so glad you were able to get this (much love to T&GG), and I certainly hope you keep us (myself as a car enthusiast especially) updated on the project. Best of luck!
Yeah, that switch project sounds so sweet. Screw the easy way out of cutting some new keys!

What's that funky hood ornament, BTW?

Yep I just doubled the value of the Jeep by putting new tires and Rims on it. I think they look much better than the stock ones.

Why do most stock rims look so bad? The ones on my Toyota just look so... well, stock. I'm eventually going with some deep dishes on it.
You've got a good solid truck there. It'll be good to you. Jeeps are solid vehicles as long as you do a little maintaining.
It looks good now. How's it drive having four of the same type of tire on it?
Don't forget to rotate them in November.

Should be able to find two cheap endcaps for your rear bumper on e-bay, too.

Decals?
The switches are temporary, it will have a key eventually.

Yes, I've read it and the movie was better. Only because the book messed up in the details. There is no such thing as a four door 1958 Plymouth Fury. Not even in a special order could you get the badge.
The hood ornament is a chrome ram.
What was the make and model Jon?
It's a 1954 Dodge Coronet four door sedan, that has been mutilated into a two door convertible without the ability to convert into anything else.
It has a 241 cubic inch V8 HEMI. Not a whole lot of horse power, but has torque like a tractor.

Pretty sure he means the V8 emblem. Not decal.

Oh, and I put bucket seats in it. I forgot that part.
My new minivan was destroyed in the flood, so I have lots of neat parts I can use. ;)

LOL. True story, that engine sounds strong. I doubt it would take much to get it into the prime of life again. That is after you get all your wiring in place and tested. Then we can pull the engine/tranny and get the engine purring with the body is getting a lift and tuck. BTW, I think I found a buyer for my Charger....finally.

Fuck, where's my mind? Yeah, I meant the emblem. The V8 engine is what it's meant to represent.
I thought the doors looked a bit weird for the car, but yeah I see the conversion you're talking about. Bucket seats? Was the old bench seat unusable, or was this a preference? Any ideas for the paint job (long ways to go I know)?
Jon Dahl
06-25-2007, 08:47 PM
The paint shines up still, but is ruined where it's been cut into and burned.
The car didn't come with any seats. My original seats have been gone for 10 years now.
I'm still not 100% sure which direction I'm going to go.
I think it'd be fun to have as much of the original car there as possibe and make a rat rod. Although, buying another body and restoring it to full is far more likely, though more time consuming.
It will be painted black, just like it was.

Heh... minivans... evil but necessary. I'm switching my guys over to them to defray the cost of fuel. 26mpg vs. 15-18 for the box vans. Yep... we can't carry as much, but we sure as heck can take parkways!
