View Full Version : Panel Borders

I'm having a blast drawing with this new method (to me) where I do the layouts 1/3rd size, blow them up 300% and do the final pencils... problem is that I am being bugged by the panel borders. I'm guessing that you should draw them a lot darker than the other darks in the page, and I keep on having to do/redo them when I erase things. Is inking the borders a good idea? Anyone have any suggestions?

I just put in borders using Photoshop after everything is completed.

If you ink the borders before you're finished the pencil job, you run the risk of making it a pain to change 'em if you need to later, just like anything else.

Like Jamal says, do 'em in Photoshop. An added benefit is that they'll be absolutely true and square if you do do 'em in the computer. A lot of the commercial jobs I do use text instead of hand lettering ( or a hand-style font in the computer ). Photoshop-ruled borders make all the text and boxes align that much more easily.

i ink my borders just like everything else. if they're a little screwy i can always clean them up in photoshop.
