I was reading Ultimates vol 2 #13 earlier today, I'm sure you've seen the flashback to Steve Rogers last date with Gail.

Dialogue goes something like this:
"I love you Gail. I'll make it back from the war."
"You promise?"
"I just did, didn't I?"
"We'll be waiting"

...

"We'll be waiting?"
Way to go Steve! Happy Father's Day you stud!

So now Cable will take him into the future, and he'll be raised and trained by the great, great, great, great, great, great grandchildren of Black Widow and Nick Fury's third cousins twice removed, then brought back to present time where he'll take over for Steve Rogers.

She could be talking about his and her family, not necessarily their child. Having a baby before marriage is more frowned upon in the '40s.

I don't know about that. If I were having a very intimate moment with my girlfriend whom I might never see again, I would be thinking about my loss of a loved one, not how my mom or my close friend might miss her.

Babies out of wedlock might have been frowned upon, but it wasn't that rare of an occurrence either. I wouldn't put it past Millar though to toss that in, him of the Wanted final page infamy. It would give Loeb something to work with too.

Or maybe I'm just a goofball who should read Architectural Digest instead of the Ultimates when I go to the crapper.

Wasn't Gail the daughter who... shot Cap in the gut?

otherwise, what you're suggesting would amount to incest (if Gail is the older woman from the 40's, and she's pregnant by Cap, that would make her daughter Cap's daughter too, but Cap had a romance with both women...

Knowing Millar, Gail and Steve having a son that in the present day working as a Vegas drag queen singer called Mimi is also a possibility. ;)

How do you know you haven't already? I mean, there was quite a lot of gender confusion about Echo/Ronin not too long ago...

maybe she meant it in the grand scheme of things, like 'we'll' as in America (c)

after all it was meant to be very patriotic wasnt it. but if they ever did wanna use it they could say 'see, we set the groundwork months in advance', 'oh, and megneto really was meant to be xorn all along' ?!?

from the article, MM states:
"I’ll just give one teaser on this, then – when Captain America went off to fight in World War 2 – he left his girlfriend, who we saw in Ultimates 1 and Ultimates 2 – he left her behind...and pregnant. "

I called this sh!t back in the day.

OK, back to your originally scheduled comic programming...

Millar preaches truth in that interview. He says:

"The thing that was the problem was that the Ultimate line wasn’t very good for quite a while – it was good when it started, and it really went off the boil after a while. There were maybe a couple of good books, and then in the end, maybe one good book, and the whole idea is just to make it all good books again."

That "maybe one good book" being USM, and even it deserves the "maybe" Millar states, 'cause it just ain't what it used to be. The last thoroughly SOLID story-arc for that book in my opinion was "Hollywood"--the six part return of Doctor Octopus story. After that things got kind of squirrely with Ultimate Carnage eating Gwen, Harry becoming Ultimate Hobgoblin, Norman killing Harry in a goblin fight, boring Ultimate Silver Sable, stupid tie-in story to the 2005--2005!!!!--video game, blah, blah, BLAH.

RESTART THAT SHIT AND MAKE IT GOOD AGAIN!

looking back, and after being at a con when Mark Millar said it, i see how it all fits in now.

looks like he's planned this for a while and for his return to the Ultimates
