Anybody hitting SDCC this year? For the first time I'm not having a booth for Blambot -- this way I can actually walk around and ENJOY the con for once without being called back to the booth every 15 minutes.
I'll be walking around Thursday and Friday before the hordes show up on the weekend.

I wish I could. Maybe we could turn SDCC into an annual meeting for letterers.

I really wanted to this year, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen. It would be cool though.

So for around $200 bucks one of us could sleep with a potential Eisner winner?
Kinky.

Let me get this straight, for $200 one of us can spend the night with you?!? Do you also do your lettering on the street corner at night?

where are you getting the figure $200? are you saying hotels there cost $400 a night? is this for real?
and that snoring thing is major. my wife has come close to slitting my throat in the night. you'd need serious earplugs, or a lot of barbiturates. everybody who's ever shared a hotel room with me has regretted it.
but if anybody's seriously interested, let's talk. you can email me at crobins@artacademy.edu

I hear ya, my snoring is pretty bad too.
In fact, before the baby was born I slept on the couch EVERY night. No joke.
And the $200 figure is from memory of last year. I recall hearing that there were no affordable rooms to be found and people were having to split $400 rooms at some fancy place.

BAH! All my moving means I ain't goin' no place! But I hope to next year.
Nate: So does this mean no special 2007 font?!? Please say it isn't so!

Clem, if you don't have a hotel room by now...well...good luck getting anything under $400 (or 10 miles away...) Rooms were selling out in Feb.
Kep, probably not. But there will be a new pro font as always...

You realize a San Diego font is just a pro font with a different name that month...right?

Don't feel to bad, my husband snores too. In fact, I'm a light sleeper so we sleep in different rooms (but it's a small condo).

Amusingly, I use almost all SD fonts before I use any others...I'm an SD whore. So no, it's NOT the same to me, I'm a snob!

My snoring is so bad my roomies at the Radisson may be calling your wife to ask for a good cutlery store.
If it helps, I think there's a Days Inn or Best Western in Little Italy that still had rooms at last report and at a fairly decent rate (they've been undergoing renovation). If you have myspace, it was brought up in the SD Con group I'm in. PM me and I'll try to dig up the info if you need it.
EDIT! Super 8 Bayview was the one that had some recent renovation and might be available. Porto Vista Hotel & Suites in Little Italy and 500 West on Broadway may have rooms as well.

I know of at least one pro who rented a yacht for the weekend of San Diego. I assume he's just sleeping on it in the dock, and not sailing the thing over to the convention center. But I don't know -- there is a marina right behind the convention center. He may be the smartest man of them all if he has a boat there he's crashing in.
It's crazy out there. And, sadly, for the first time in eight years, I'm not going.

I haven't been to SDCC in 7 years or so. Anyone else going to Wizard World Philly?

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I'll be in San Diego this year. Might be my last for a while, though.

I should be there to.
I hear that they're thinking of expanding the convention center even more.
Thing is so huge already. Might as well designate it a city. ;)

Hmmmmmmm--well, I was planning on not going--after going for 12 years or so, I have not been the last--3 years, is it? From Los Angeles, it's pretty easy-access, though.
But now a client wants me to go in his stead and pave a path for his next year's comics launch.
As every man has his price, I'll just have to settle on mine. Maybe I'll see some of you there. I'll be the old guy with speedball pens (long dried out) in case I need them if my laptop crashes.
