This one made me giggle.

A friend was saying that they were really impressed with how far I've come in my coloring. I never really paid much attention to it myself, so I thought I'd do a little something fun. I found the lineart for the very first picture I ever colored, and without looking at my original colors, I recolored it.

Now...when I colored my first pic ever I was proud. I thought it was the greatest thing ever!!! Of course, people on various boards didn't quite agree (and I could never figure out why). I'd spent a week and a half on it, and by golly it was a masterpiece!

So here ya go...

Original (1.5 weeks color time) and the revisited version (45 min coloring time).

Hope ya'll get as big a laugh out of it as I did when I opened up that old one. There's a lot more I could do with the newer version, like the circuitry in the skin, but I got tired of messing with it and decided to call it a day.

Don't stop practicing, you are getting better!

Here's some tips: to make it look more real, try putting some projected shadow, like this: under his lifted leg, put its shadow on the other leg (I don't know if I explained clear enough - my English sucks..) and try putting some shining in the metal parts. :)

Heh heh, nice. How long ago did you do the original?

It was about 2-2.5 years ago. It was right before Ljamal had his Warmageddon cover contest.

Still got a ways to go, but I'm lot happier with my newer stuff, mainly because I've learned to stop being scared to play with colors and have fun.

My sequentials still need a bit more work, mainly in the value department. My pages tend to come out pretty ink heavy/muddy, especially when I'm working over pencils. But like everything else, it's just a matter of time and practice.

Wow! It's been that long? Craziness. Glad I was, in some small way, there for your beginnings. Your stuff continues to get better and better, sir. Really neat to see the comparison here. :)

Haha, yeah Ed, it was that long ago. Doesn't really seem like it though. Glad yer diggin it bud.

Am I supposed to still be ignoring you Joel? I forgot. Rantz should be able to straighten that out for me. But yeah, it's definitely scary/funny going back and looking at your old stuff, especially when you remember being so proud of it at the time

Hope you 2 are keepin busy.

Thanks Dano :)

Very "Eldar". Got kind of a Striking Scorpions thing going with the head. The plum is a nice touch though. Howling Banshee?

heh, MY first ever coloured picture.... took me about 4 hours to do. Mind you I had never used photoshop (ver 4) before at the time, so most of that was spent trying to work out how to do stuff in the application (and notice how the girl is lit top left while the box is lit dead right... :P )

I still have the B&W's to it somewhere in a folder. I should scan it again and have another bash at it maybe..? :P
