i got to do a really fun project, a series of short animatronic "comic book" features for the TV show "smallville". very clever mixture of art, animation, music, and sound. i thought it was a terrible idea until they began airing them.

you can see them if you go to

they air at the half hour break to the show. if it comes on at 8:00 where you live, the shorts come at 8:30.

the animation studio was forced to make some changes to the lettering, so if you see places where the kerning was disabled, where the lettering does not fit in the balloons, or where the crossbar "I" appears for no good reason, it's not my fault.

but on the whole, i think it's a very innovative use of the medium. particularly when a lettered sound effect appears, and an audio sound effect runs behind it. i thought this would look ridiculous when i was working on it, but it all works nicely.

Now, that looks really cool! I love the way the animation sort of makes the panels "fold together ", as it were. - Gives things a real sense of motion. And animating the lettering here and there - sound effects, etc., was a nice touch.

Good job, Clem. Something to be proud of.

nice stuff. When you told me about this I wondered how they could pull something like that off.

Nice job.

HA! I knew the style looked familiar on those. My wife asked if it was mine, actually...but no...IT'S YOU! What fun!

Really nice work!
