Not that it matters but I read somewhere a while back that Optimus Prime has always had lips.... they've just been covered by his armored faceplate.

Of course this was in relation to the movie and designs of the charactes so Im sure it was said to try and difuse crazy discussions like this once everyone saw what they were going to do on the big screen.

The same post/article mentioned we would see the face plate in the movie as well for a more traditional look.

Okay, I just want to know, how hard is it to just make a faceplate move up and down like in the old cartoon? I mean, that would look more realistic (and wasn't the whole argument of turning in him into a long nose truck vs a flat nose because it was more realistic) than giving him lips. And why change the sound of the voice. Fans wanted to at least hear the original Optimus Prime once again. :man:

I really don't know, I can't remember the last time I saw a car transform into a giant robot and start fighting someone. But logically speaking, I would think they would build some type of device to protect their audio transceiver so that wouldn't happen. DAMN YOU MICHAEL BAY. YOU PUT LIPS ON OPTIMUS PRIME (so he can help you kiss your @$$ with the rest of the fans) BUT CAN'T PROTECT HIS AUDIO TRANSCEIVER! :slap:

This has already been revealed, the lips are his regular mode and then when he fights the Shield/plate covers them. Kind of like the ninja in PRAY FOR DEATH (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0089835/).

Heh... I enjoyed Power Rangers... and they where Animals, that came together to form a Megazord. Like Go-Lion. Not Transformers. The only did vehicles later like in Power Rangers Zeo or whatever it was.. like 5 or 6 u.s. seasons. Completely different show in Japan.

No, that wasn't Megatron. And people are bitching about a whole lot more than just the voice and lips. The voice change is just the latest bitch. We have the fact that they not only changed Optimus from a flat nose truck to a long nose, but they put flames on him (obviously confusing him with Hot Rod). Bumblebee is a corvette instead of a bug (I don't mind this change myself). Megatron is a spaceship instead of a gun, tank, or even a cannon - in fact he doesn't even have a gun it seems. Starscream looks like a mix of an ape and a chicken. They changed the origin from being the ark crashing to Earth to being all these individual little comet like things (I guess he got confused with Rock Lords). Cybertron isn't a mechanical planet rather a actual planet (looks kind of like the moon crossed with the Cybertron design). Rumble looks like something from robotchicken. And I could go on and on. The thing is Bay took the only really popular version of TRANFORMERS (G1) and is crapping on it - trying to be original. So, naturally, fans of G1 are pissed. I have no doubt the movie will sale to kids but I (and a lot of fans) refuse to watch a part of my childhood go down the drain.

Oh, and I almost forgot the bogus contest on the site. They had this contest for US residents to come up with an "ORIGINAL" line for Optimus to say during the movie. They picked the last 50 (I think) that was entered (some really bad), and most of them where rips from the cartoon, toys, and cartoon movie. And the winner was a word for word rip from a saying that was on back of the G1 Optimus Prime toy box.

As far as THIS movie goes though, I'm still waiting to see it before I pass any judgement. As it is I still haven't seen the clip even though as was said it was just a European test.
