A Pinup of the NEW CAPTAIN AMERICA. Your creation! Cap is dead, so what is next? Will a new hero or villain take over the role, and if so, what will the outfit look like? Or will a new person assume the guise of the Captain? Your job is to design the NEW CAPTAIN AMERICA. You can use any existing MARVEL character ie the Punisher as Captain, Iron Man as Cap, etc. Or you can create an entirely new Cap Design. Any type of composition. Any style, any media, action or pin-up pose.

The piece must be new and created specifically for this draw-off.

Um... the Punisher IS the new Cap (for now at least). Maybe we should actually exclude him from the draw off? Just to stoke originality I mean...

Sweet. I just did a Cap pic last week, but I'd love to try a redesign.

I wanna do this one...I have never done a draw off before....but does it HAVE to be someone else besides Stevie boy?
And does it need to be redesigned?

here's my pitch-
this is the way they should have done the whole new captain thing-

For two issues we follow PFC Daniel Ruetz around the war tattered city of Baghdad, and in the second issue last page a helicopter lands with the shield lady in it. ( i cant remember her name... sue me)
Daniel's mother is of middle eastern descent so the war has touched closer to home for him than most. His arabic is incredibly fluent and his skills as a soldier are unparalleled.
But his country needs him on the home front. He will be a symbol of a new America. Captain America.
Ill have a character design up by deadline

Okay, before anyone else coin this (which I know many could, and the post above me is a bit close to what I'm going for) here's my description.

The new Captain America is an African-American man named Bilal Mohammad Foster. Born as Henry James Foster, age 29.
He is a close relative of the late Bill Foster (Goliath).
A former anti-terrorist operative, a Moslem since he was 17.
Does not wear a mask, as SHIELD wants him as a poster boy for pro-reg.
SHIELD appointed him as the new Cap partly as a PR stunt. Others think Stark chose him because of a guilty conscience. Stark says that he's just the best man for the job.
The Mighty Avengers keep a close eye on him.
The Winter Soldier keep his crosshairs on him.
The New Avengers don't like him.
The Young Avengers don't trust him.
Most capes in America underestimate him.
Every villain in America is out to get him.
Only Wolverine respects him.
But like it or not, no one alive can be a better Captain America than him.
(In my Marvel Universe, at least :) )

I'm still doing the pencils as I write.

I actually kinda laughed when I first noted the Muslim Cap references..My apologies, guess its the Mountainboy coming out in me..But after taking the time to read through them, I found Captains Americas I could support the whole way....Kudos...

Kinda shocked at my own initial reaction I guess... :sure:

It's been a while since I've posted and this seemed fun.

The concept with mine is Jack Monroe is mysteriously back after having appartently been killed by the Winter Soldier. He takes up the mantle of Cap but adds his Nomad stun discs and the staff he used while he was Scourge. The bandana on his arm is Steve Rogers' mask that he obtained the hard way. His next mission: bring down the Winter Soldier!

I wanted to take this further, but I don't think I'll have time so I'm posting the pencils as an entry just in case.

Love the pieces that have been posted so far, especially the Mario one, that freakin' Rocks!!

I decided to stay with a traditional look (you can never go wrong with the classics). I think the best current younger character in the MU that has any chance in hell to fill Cap's shoes would be Vance Astrovik. He has already done so in an Alternate timeline so why not this one? I never liked the Justice persona anyway and since he is widely know in the MU anyway I think he would be a great Captain America. And who better to fill the role after all of the Civil War crap. Ex-Leader of New Warriors becomes the poster boy for registration and the American symbol.

My Captain America... a.k.a. the American Bomber....

The American Bomber is a former key member of the undeground and illegal movement E.L.F... Therefore he can act outside the lines of possible law based on the philosophy the ends justifies the means. The American Bomber is not your dad's cap! Don't get it twisted the American Bomber is a heroe who continuely acts on what is right and just not in the eyes of the law but in the eyes of man and the universal truths that those who have seen the light can see. He will often go against the grain and the mainstream with his head strong philosophy... but it is never a philosophy based on self interest or self preservation. In fact the American Bomber you could say may have a death wish, but he knows the world needs him more than he needs the world so he strives on and feels blessed with every challenge that comes his way.

ok.. I had to throw my hat in on this one...last month at a show we were all talking about the death of Cap and who will replace him or willthey bring him back blah blah blah..this one kept running around all weekend and we were so amused by it...so here is a quickie and I have now gotten it out of my head. Thanks! :p

all righty, made the deadline, just wish i could have spent more time on it :( or at least been able to put some ink on the thing.

My version has the new Cap a bit more combat ready with a good bit of kevlar padding strapped to him just to try and avoid him meeting the same fate Rogers did.

This is the first time in a long long LONG time that I've left something completely in pencil and I have a feeling I'll be going back to either redraw this or just ink this copy. The color scheme i have planned out is pretty interesting though with the dark shaded areas being blue, the kevlar over-lay in red with white trim, and the padded stripes down the sleeves alternate red and white all the way down to the gloves being red (that makes for 7 red and 6 white as on the flag). I even opted to include the captain rank insignia on his collar.

My Cap is a new character. An ex soldier from the frontlines of the war on terror he comes only to find out about the Civil War and that Captain America has been killed.
Talking with Stark about creating a new Captain America they create a suit of armor more flexible and durable than Iron Man's. Instead of using the suit for what Stark intentions were for he uses it to follow in Captain America's footsteps and to take down Iron Man.

I was just going to let the artwork speak for itself, but might as well throw in a short spiel as most everyone else has. Guess it's my spiritual side kicking in with this one, the symbolism of 'America' dying, and me not wanting it to - wanting it to live on, but having to face facts. Cap is dead. But I wanted to capture his spirit living on in the next life, or the next plane as a guardian and protector of what he stood for. What he stood for cannot die, it must not die, and that is why I did the piece the way I did. I'm going to work on completing it, but due to time constrainsts for purposes of this post, I whipped up the image and got it posted. And yes, he is upset. And standing his ground.

Hey,

Is there any deadline extension on this, or is it already closed?

Biofungus
04-24-2007, 12:44 AM
April 22nd, 11:59 pm, eastern standard time. No extension (which is good, IMO, because too many draw offs in the past were marred by dubious deadline extensions).

Once again, I didn't enter this draw off, so... feel free to vote for me :p
