Microsoft announced that Windows Live Messenger for Xbox 360 will launch on May 7, 2007, which will be included as part of the Xbox 360 Spring Update. Xbox 360 players will be able to chat with friends across the Windows Live Messenger network and Xbox Live community.

You can chat with up to 6 people simultaneously, while playing games, listening to music or watching movies. It is also possible to voice chat or video chat over Windows Live Messenger.

Microsoft will also release a 47-keys QWERTY style keyboard add-on this summer, which can be attached to the bottom of the Xbox 360 controller.

Reminds me of those old Atari controllers you could get for certain games that had overlays to go with whatever game you were playing. Anyone remember those?

Great idea incorporating it as an add-on as opposed to purchasing a fat new controller at 50-60 bucks. Looks good!

I remember them. I had Star Raiders... and that's all.

Of course we all know they came up with this thing first, then had a meeting to decide what to include in an update that would require it.

I think all this video game stuff is just a population control mechanism. When you are spending so much time playing games you're not doing other things like going out and meeting people much less learning the skills it takes to make babies.

so that doesn't apply to those of us that got that baby makin part out of the way early in life, right?

Depends on the game. WOW requires plenty of time to get anywhere. While a game like Rainbow Six does not. It is designed for quick matches. Depends on the person what they get out of the game. If they get lost in the gaming world, they are not really worried about making babies.

Playing games is not different than any other entertainment hobby. It is up to the person to decide, how much time they put into it.

Show me another entertainment medium that is so thoroughly immersing and requires 60+ hours to complete the story.

I watched a Roots marathon this weekend on TV and was immersed in the story, but still managed to get other thing done because TV watching is passive while video gaming is active which means if I'm playing I'm not doing much else.

It's possible to physically interact with people? Tell me more, it sounds intriguing.

I go geocaching... and have put in a few 10 hour days doing it, too. :) I know that it's not 100% what you mean, but it was more about the challenge of finding examples :)

Add up all the time of reading comics, or novels, or playing sports. You do not have to play the game for 60+ hours. As I said it is up to said person to choose their level of involvment. Not all games require 60+ hours to complete. In fact none take that long to finish the main story. The time adds up with side quests and general anarchy, as in the GTA games.
