Just a quick one, done all at once with the airbrush, no flatting. I may do another one later more 'cg' style. Let me know what you think.

For the most part I like the muted colors the way they are. I would add a few more tones to the brown "ace-bandaged" areas though just for a little depth.

Thanks. Yeah, I realize I kinda bypassed any shadows, it's just the two highlight colors used...

color scheme is great- but the rendering is a little weak. simple tweeks could knock it out of the park.
You might want to add in some highlights on the figure to 'pop' it a little

thanks for the tips. I was trying for a soft and subtle approach... there are obvious flaws, I'll try to keep what you've said in mind for the future.

i dont think your subtle approach worked im sorry man :p
it kinda looks dirty, and unrendered, i think you should try making the rendering more visible, then throw in a second light source for shits and giggles!
take care man

For a whole book, I don't think this style would work. However, I actually think this piece totally works on its own with the colorful but undetailed rendering. I like it.

it would totally work for a whole book- it needs to be applied to art that supports it.
The whole story would need to take place at dusk on a waterfront for the lighting to carry. Otherwise, highlight as appropriate. If it's a single piece, low-lit, I'd throw in another piece of subject matter to emphasize the lighting, either a building, a bird, a ship, or whatever to establish that, yes, the light is low. It's a nice piece, just needs to eliminate quesitoning.

wow, thanks for all that guys. I was picturing him jumping... maybe on a rooftop, so orange street lights from below, bluish moonlight from above...
I've used similar style over more rendered pencils and had good results.
I'm glad you like it, and will take the crits into consideration in future.
thanks all.

Yes, very true I guess.
