So Superman 3 was on tv last night. I do not remember the last time I saw this movie. The Superman drunk thing will always be funny, yet this movie has some really strange moments.

The entire opening is just strange. The fire hydrant that fills up the car, who came up with that one.

The chemical fire though takes the cake. Jimmy asks Clark to create a distraction, Clark does nothing and Jimmy walks right past the cop.

Who steals money from the company, on the company computer?

Even when Superman goes bad he is tame, he was just an asshole not evil.

Didn't he make an oil spill happen? I can't remember if he caused it or just didn't clean it up until he reformed.

If he was the cause, that's pretty evil. Also, peanuts should not be treated with such indignity.

He blew out the Olympic Flame.
He fixed the leaning tower of Pisa.
He hit on Lana.
I am sure he did not pay for his drinks.

Even after he did all that, it took him getting drunk to upset people.

I just thought his whole transformation was funny.

The suit got darker and dirty and he started growing a beard. His hair even got really greasy.

The opening is goofy nonsense. This movie is what Superman II would have been if Lester had been starting from scratch. Most of the people who were involved in the early stages of the Superman franchise had some serious brain damage. It's a miracle that a few key people were able to get the good material out there.

The whole movie just doesn't make sense. I'm surprised they even get to do Superman IV which is only slightly bearable.

Asshole Superman was the best part of that movie.

The best part of the movie is Richard Pryor falling off of a skyscraper! on skis, landing safely, and then crossing the street nonchalantly to play it off as if it didn't just happen.

Unfortunately, the scene had no business in the movie.

At the time, this was only the third movie that I saw that had me (playfully) angry afterwards (the "Superman goes back in time thing" from the first one made me scratch my head the first time around but didn't mess with my overall enjoyment of the movie). Gymkata and some other movie that I can't remember now {thankfully} were the other two. Superman dousing the olympic torch was a nice laugh, though ("That's it??!! That's all you're going to do??!!"). And, if there was one - and there may be, in my mind, only one - thing worthwhile in the movie it's the whole ... Clark vs. Superman thing.

And the t.v show Small Wonder sucked :)

Watch the movie and see how many times he flubs a line, then just makes something up. When he gave the Kryptonite to Supes was a dead give away.

superman 4 was worse by far....

No way. Agreed, it's a bad film, but at least they initially tried to make a good film, and their heart was in the right place. Certain things happened during the film's pre-production that killed its chances of true quality. Superman 3 is just plain bad, nothing going for it whatsoever IMO.

certain things like letting Christopher Reeve write and direct based on a hundred comic books he read? I read all the articles leading up to the movie, it was destined to be a disaster. you can't base a superman movie on all the 60s-80s comic books....different eras, different characterizations of superman....
