Well the book is out.
The thing is they aren't really transforming. They are either crouching or standing. Prime is about the only one I've seen transform.
Spike did become an intergal part of tf after the first movie...but then again, almost everything after the movie kinda sucked. Rodimus prime sucked.

The third season was a real letdown. There were some decent moments ('Fight or Flee' and 'Return of Optimus Prime' were good), but overall the production values were a step down, the colours were gaudy, and in the case of episodes like 'Big Broadcast of 2006' (fuck, that was last year), parts were nonsensical.
Rodimus was a bad idea, because Hot Rod was awesome. Everyone loved Hot Rod. Then they turned him into a wagon. What? He was a shit-hot car! Jesus, turning Kup into a wagon would have been okay. Turning Ultra Magnus into an aubergine would have been fine, but the best design of the new Autobots gets an hour of looking cool before turning into Self-Doubtimus Prime? Pfshaw.

Unicron.
They had a prototype Unicron, it was huge, Hot Rod (robot mode) came to about mid-calf. I just recent, they made an arcee toy, although it was a bike I think.

i used to love Rodimus Prime...but maybe that's because my name is Rod....hmm...I dunno....the third season wasn't that bad imo...i thought that turning him into the futuristic truck was a good idea...it was kinda like what an el dorado is....with a campe...ok ok...it could have been better, and they turned him into a doubter because he wasn't supposed to be a leader yet...optimus was supposed to come back...

I figure I'll go see it, enjoy the pretty effects, maybe laugh at a scene or two, and try to leave it at that. From what I've seen so far this movie is to Transformers what the Tristar "Godzilla" was to, well, the real Godzilla. It was a giant monster movie, but it wasn't Godzilla. This film is about big robot aliens fighting each other, but it isn't Transformers. I wonder if people will start referring to them as TINO(Transformers In Name Only)?

Uh...dude, what are you? A 9 years old? Real robots aren't blocky. Super robots are.
Those categorized as 'real robots' are:
- Mass produced
- Proportional in strength
- Mostly no higher than a tall building
- Bound to several laws of real physics and mechanics
- Maneuverable. Blocky robots aren't in any way maneuverable.
- Other examples: Gundams, Patlabor, Armored Core
Those categorized as 'super robots' are:
- One of a kind
- Ridiculously all-powerful
- Frickin' huge.
- Not bound to any real physics or mechanics
- Blocky, unrealistic, or just downright impossible to be maneuverable in real life.
- Examples: Shin Getter Robo (with a tomahawk as large as the moon!), Mazinger Z, Voltron

You just don't have any imagination in you, huh?
I'm not talking about real robots as in 'robots that our current technology can allow to make', and I believe none of us did except you. We're talking about transforming robots. Toy robots. Cartoon robots. Something that has been going around in our pop culture for generations. These kinds of robots are what Transformers are all about and you give me an Asimo crap.
The robots we're talking about are a staple of kids entertainment here and in Japan where it thrives the most, and there these kinds of robots have already been made into a genre all its own. In this genre there are two types of robots, which I have already stated. You can tell the difference between them too if you are really into them, which I see that you're not.
And I'm not talking about these kinds of robots either.

Its Micheal Bay so I've had a few nerves, but your right I'm more on board for this movie then you are...Sure flames are silly...but its still a big red and blue truck. You dont seem to get that.
Heres a lesson about Transformers. If you want add tsi to wkipedia. It will help people.
Transformers are cool giant robots that turn into cars/vehicles. There are good guys call Autobots and bad guys called Decepticons.
Bad guys have a leader called Megatron, He was a gun...then he died and turned into some spaceship/gun thing and had Spocks voice, he also got a shiney new name I think...and he was Purple and ORange YUCK ! I think he turned into a Dinosaur when Transformers morphed into animals...but that is so far off my radar it dosent even matter....but I was too old to follow any of that anyway.
Good Guys have a leader called Optimus Prime. He tends to be a truck. It tends to be Blue and Red. Hes got a big gun. His voice is cool. I think he died too..but then came back.
They have this planet called Cybertron, and they eat food called Energon cubes.
Beyond that theres a whole host of different good guys and bad guys with cool names. Som are even things called Sharkticons !
..when they transform theres this cool " weh-wah-wah-wah" noise thats great !
They are WAY cooler then Go - Bots

Like I said, I'm not talking about real life robotics. I'm talking about genres in robot movies, cartoons and pop culture. It's not called 'real robots' because it's real, it's called that because marketing guys in Japan needed to distinguish their products from the '70s giant robot cartoon shows. God, I hate to repeat myself. Do you hear that? I hate to repeat myself!
Let me just ask you one thing then. Would you prefer to get in line at the ticket booth for a 90 minute movie about Asimo rather than watching (Michael Bay's) Transformers? Somehow I don't think so but you'd probably say you would just to spite me.

Gundams seem to fit into the blocky catergory. Did you ever see that transforming sideswipe?
First let's get a real transformer:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=TISM-sozU_A&mode=related&search=
Then a generic one used on a commercial(which looks like g-1..which wasn't as blocky as some may think):

an optimus fake:

and the sideswipe:

all in the style of the original and to me, look nothing like crap.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=OBY1nxEP3ds
I wouldn't have one problem with this movie as a giant alien machine movie BUT the moment they say primes name, bumblebees name, megatrons name my mind will automatically associate it with the originals and be totally unsatiesfied if that makes sense.

Oh okay. Although it wouldn't hurt to let me in on the joke instead of thinking I was the joke next time, you hear? :p
By the way I think 'blocky' is not quite the right word, but rather 'geometrical'. Gundams are in some parts blocky but in many parts mimic real human limbs with organic shapes. Recent Japanese Transformers designs have shown some Gundam-ish traits, though. Probably to appease more Gundam fans/Bandai fanatics.
Well if this movie suck at least I can try to find a Tetsujin 28 (Gigantor) live action movie on ebay. That there looks exactly like the cartoon.

Okay, the fisrt video, aside from looking nothing like a Transformer, G1 or otherwise, the vehicle form doesn't even look like any vehicle in existence! This is the last think you should be using in argument of how removed the movie designs of the Transformers are from the original cartoons and toys.
In the second video, you're right, the Transformer doesn't look blocky. Although the legs look like they'd snap like twigs before the end of one fight.
All things considered, seeing such close representations of the original characters is nice, but only briefly. There's a novelty to it, but nothing I would take seriously in a two-hour action movie. Especially since none of the videos show the characters in any real action, besides walking briefly. And the car commercial, that figure movied like it weighed all of five pounds.
