I like the colors meself - this is more or less the Kirby-style Thing, so I think the style of it is appropriate. The background though could be shifted. A simple hue / saturation adjustment in Photoshop ( or whatever you're coloring with ) to blue will give you a complimentary color scheme as well - Doesn't have to be blue of course, but orange Thing and red-orange-yellow background seems a little redundant. Good job.
