So, is there any other way to get a HD to work in the old PS2 without the PS2 HDD?

Certain brand names definitely work on the PS2. Just google around for a list.

What exactly do you want to do?

You'd need the HDAdvance/HDloader, and the network adaptor.

That'll work for ripping your games to a hard drive. It doesn't function the same as the regular drive though. So games like Street Fighter Alpha Anthology won't take advantage of it.

Well, someone just gave me a big chunky PS2 and I have a bunch of hard drives laying around... sooo.. I was just wondering if I HAD to have the speciall HDD or there was another way to pop this thing in. I was hoping there would just be a standard pin connector for a ribbon, but alas, I was wrong. Plus I have no memory cards and I'm aware that older games can't be saved on the HDs just memory cards.

Oh the HDD attaches to the network adapter, and sits in the bay.

But you gotta have a modded PS2 for the HDLoader to work though. And, you still save your games in a memory card. The HDD is only for storing your DVD-ripped games (you rip and install it using a PC with a little tiny program called WinHIIP).

You do not have to mod your ps2 to use hdloader. It even says it on the page.

If you don't mod the chip you will have to boot the games with the CD or DVD. It's also useful if you want to play imported games on the HDLoader.

If you have a modified PS2 do you still need a Slide Tool or Flip Top Cover to load backups or imports onto HDD?
Slide Tool or Flip Top Cover is not needed if the PS2 is modified.

Never tried using the boot CD/DVD though, my PS2 DVD drive is busted which is why I switch to HDD. Another method without modding is by making an 'exploit' on your Memory Card.
