I am really liking that this will be open source. You will be able to create your own add ons as well as games.

I don't know how long they've been planning it, and not that it isn't crazy cool, but I wonder how much the Wii effected them in that decision. Granted, it looks infinitely better but it's infinitely more expensive and would probably be charging you through the nose if Wii wasn't giving things away for free already. I'd love to have it though. :)

Sorry, just saw second video. Still. I think they'd be charging if it weren't for the Wii.

The tech guide said, they were working on something similar for the ps2. They took what Nintendo and Microsoft did and turned the volume up.

It's funny how every time Sony comes out with something after another company does, they say they were already working on it first. This is what happens when Sims and Mii have a bastard child.

No it said they were working on something similar, yet did not go into details. They said they looked at what Nintendo and Microsoft did, and took the next step.

And that changes what I said how? Right, it doesn't. Sony has become king of the sloppy seconds this generation.

There is the other Q&A.
Says the download will be 500mb.

That looks pretty cool.
I'm still not shelling out $600 for a system with a cool interface/chat environment, but it's definitely a step in the right direction.

Exactly.
Sony has spread themselves too thin in the past year or two, which means not everything is getting 100% focus. If they dedicated themselves say, to blu ray first, got that going, it'd have been more of a selling point for the PS3, which if they turned their attention to, wouldn't have so many problems.
Sony bit themselves in the ass, figuring they were so popular they could churn out sh*t and people would line up and buy it by the shovel full. Problem is, they never paid attention to what the competition was doing, so now they rush out overpriced crud, and are playing catch up just to make it more appealing.

I'm on board with that.
Biofungus is right. Just because you are super popular nowadays doesn't mean people are going to follow you into debt. I do love my PS1 and my 'new' PS2, but I love my cheap-ass Wii.
Look around. Walmart is killing all the other stores for a reason. Unfortunately there is a whole other conversation regarding their practices.

Beta begins in April. Only 15,000 will get it. Then the floodgates will open in August for more entries. Expect the service to be extremely limited for about the first year.

Of course. They're not going to all of the bells and whistles if they see this thing not taking off.

That makes sense, most of the content will be user and 3rd party based.

As someone who has worked video game retail, the answer to that is...
A whole hell of a lot of people.

The e-mail came from Sony directly. First GAP members, then people who registered their PS3.
