I was looking through some of Nate's fonts, and noticed this symbol on most of the pay fonts. It is also something I was going to have incorporated if I had a custom font made (I didn't realize it was so naturally prevalent in comic fonts). However, what is it called? They look like whiskers, and seem to take the place of the 'fancy brackets'. Are they just stylized brackets?

FIREFLIES - three little lines on either side of a non-word sound, such as "sigh" or "gasp". Also known as "Roachlegs."

Taken from Balloontales (http://www.balloontales.com/articles/glossary/index.html).
