What is the point of Turner Classic Movies? I get an idea in my head once in a while to see if there is anything on that I've never seen before. Well, tonight, Batman Forever and Backdraft.

I've noticed movies like this on and off for a while, but last night, The Patriot was on!?!?

I don' geddit.

All things Turner are part of the AOL/Time Warner machine. Which also includes Warner Bros.

What I meant was, the channel is basically advertised as one that shows older movies. Heavy on the pre MPAA ratings era and all. Stuff that isn't being played uncut really anywhere else.

AMC shows stuff that's routinely less than 3 years old. American Movie Classics my hairy white ass...

Turner is beholden to all that is Time Warner, which believes anything older than 15 years should be forgotten collectively by society.

I always got the impression that AMC is more mid range. Like a radio station that plays old and new, but that TMC was supposed to be an oldies station. (Last Samurai is on tonight. :sure: )

Plus AMC has commercials, doesn't it? What the Hell am I paying the cable company for?

:( I used to love AMC And TCM. I'm a Martin&Lewis Kid, Abbott& Costello, Bogey&Bacall, Film noir, 30's, 40's, 50's film type and loved watching AMC during the day. They'd show Kiss of Death (not that shit with cage and CSI Miami) but with Widmark & Victor Mature (Widmark was the definition of Crazy gangster in that flick I tell you!). GODDAMMIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :man:

Guys, I think TCM is in the midst of their annual "31 Days of Oscar" schedule. For better or for worse, Batman Forever was a Oscar winner (Best Song IIRC) as was The Patriot. After the Oscars broadcast, TCM's schedule should return to it's regular format.

That said, I've noticed that along with showing more movies from Sony's Columbia Pictures/post-Turner MGM libraries of late, they've moved their "cutoff year" to around 1979. It's still pretty rare for them to break out a post-1970 movie outside of a star or director spotlight or the Oscar event, but as the Baby Boomers keep getting older more of their "classics" will be turning up.

Can we all agree that that one network using the initials is NOT AMC. Once they started putting commercials on and cancelled "Remember WENN" it all went to hell. They're worse than early-90s TBS with the schedule and commercials. Just replace BeastMaster with El Dorado.

They do show lots of Eastwood movies. Some good classic westerns there.
