View Full Version : LOST (Feb 14)
I just watched it (I love my DVR)...and I was impressed. it feels like LOST has reclaimed it's soul. About damn time. THIS is what LOST is supposed to be!

Until this episode I didn't really care one way or another about Desmond. Now I really feel sorry for the cat and want to see him succeed.
And, looking at things, the big picture that is, couldn't this whole show be, more or less, Desmond's story? That is, him being the main character. Like the argument that Sam is the REAL main character of the Lord of the Rings, not Frodo, since he's the one who actually has a character building storyline.

I've heard Desmond indeed could be the central character to Lost .
Now I need to watch the episode ! lol...Nothing like boyfreindly duites, and valentines day falling on a day with a new Lost.

I haven't heard the bit about Sam...but it does make some sense. Though, to be honest, I don't think JRR went there...I think he just got so busy with the events around Frodo he didn't give enough to Frodo.
Desmond on the other hand may be the lynchpin...i rather like that.
Here's an interesting problem...in the flashback, Desmond was REMEMBERING the future...in the "present" he's predicting it...isn't it more logical (sic.) to assume he's remembering it too and he's really from the future?
Imboden

Yeah - he can't see the future anymore than you or I, that's apparent NOW. So yeah, it seems that Desmond IS just remembering things that have already happened to him.
But to really make one's head hurt, lets ask this question; How many times has he... uh, lets just call it "time jumped". How many times has he time jumped? And to when? Unless I'm mistaken, that picture of him and Penelope was slightly different in different shots (different shirt color on Penny) so has he done this all numerous times.
And how 'bout that Wizard of Oz reference with the dude, the red shoes and the scaffolding falling on him. Could THAT be a clue as to everything?
Argh!
The OZ bit was a sharp bit, I agree.
And of course, the most important question: if Desmond is remembering all of this...when is "Now"?

So, the only way to save Charlie now is to change one of the numbers of the The Valenzetti Equation, which is the whole point of the DHARMA initiative, or they're just going to kill off Charlie.
Charlie is one of my favorite characters too, dammit. :man:

Did we already forget about Henry Gale and the hot-air ballon in the jungle? This was the third Oz reference I believe.

The numbers and repeated 'Oz' references lead me to put a lot of weight behind the theory that this is all a very controlled and organized situation. Perhaps Desmond remembering things is, to borrow from the movies, a "glitch in the Matrix".

Well, he did tell Jack that Sarah would recover when he spoke with Jack on the bleachers in the stadium.
Maybe Desmond's butterfly-effect leaps have just begun?... again.. :p
Red Shoes...Balloon...what am I forgetting?
and who are the Winklings?

Red Shoes...Balloon...what am I forgetting?
Henry Gale was the name of Dorothy's uncle in the Wizard of Oz. In Lost, he was the man who piloted the balloon, and Ben stole his name to protect his identity when captured by Danielle Rousseau. I imagine Ben took his name because one of the Oceanic815 survivors would recognize his real name.

You know, for a show that admitted how insignificant the numbers were, they're really trying to step up their strength/relevance in the show again. Desmond's mind trip had me cursing myself for much the episode. However, the conclusion had me very satisfied with at least knowing that Desmond is starting to understand how it works. As opposed to having his future self supplant himself in the present, it seems like his mind is what's "jumped", or continues to process these flashes from his life without stopping at any particular point of reference. You life flashes before your eyes, in the sense of looking back into the past. What if it continued to process these flashes of things that eventually happen in your life? I totally think Desmond has what Walt was experiencing, although has a better comprehension and control over it given his maturity. Kinda kooky.
He's fast becoming one of my favorite characters, although that's perhaps also because they've totally abandoned Sayid's potential :man: . C'mon, do SOMETHING!

What a great episode. Desmond became my second favorite character (1. Sawyer, 3. Sayid) as soon as he was fully introduced and Charlie has been my least favorite character since the first episode so I loved it. I don't know how he'll die but I sure hope it hurts.

It's a total fabrication on my part... or is it?

I kinda dismissed this when I read it, because the "hit by a bus" scene has been turning into a gimmick these days in movies and film. But with Desmond seeing Charlie die, saving him, but Death continues to come for him, now that's Final Destination.

I'm bumping this because there is no reason to start another "Lost" thread every week.
Tonight's episode was pretty good. Jack's flashback bored me though, and they mistranslated his tatoo. Matthew Fox had the tattoo before the show. :p
I am looking foward to next week's episode. I caught a glimps of Vincent running up onto the beach carrying an arm... An arm that appeared to be wearing a Rolex.

This weeks episode was mind-numbing to me.
I didn't care about anything that happened. The flashbacks were the best part and even those were typical fare.
I really think they need to get into the third act already with this show.

There will probably be another episode on his tattoos, since they didn't go into the top part of it.
And who goes to Thailand to fly a kite? Creep.

Time is out of joint. Nothing is happening as it unfolds. The island adventure is the real flashback. The flash forwards are occurring in the present, and the flashbacks are really roadmaps leading the characters to certain points in the show-- visions generated by the sentient island, which really is a giant, telepathic tortoise floating around the ocean, hence making it difficult to kind.
After the show is over, the tortoise leaves its shell and decides to level New York City, as documented in Cloverfield.
