Ok, I just saw this flick tonight, This movie was intense, Not a big Leo Decaprio (sorry about the spelling) fan, but what a performance, IMHO, really should get the big O on this one. As well as best picture nod. Didn't like the ending, but it had to happen that way I guess.
Let's hear some thoughts........

I thought it was great. A bit jarring, but no complaints.

I thought it was WAY overrated.

I don't necessarily think it was overhyped at all. Great movie, paced very well even with everything that was going on in the flick. I don't understand why Leo's nominated for Blood Diamond, but not this? Everyone gives an excellent performance. DVD tomorrow I believe.

I'm a huge scorcese fan so my opinion will be biased when I see it. I can't wait.

You should all buy Infernal Affairs and watch that. Departed was based on it, and I feel it is a much better film. I did like the Departed, but thought Nicholson overacted.

Man, just watched this. Don't really care about the film the plot was based on (because this actually has alot of reference to Boston mob) but I gotta say this has got to be Martin's best since Goodfella's. I hate Nicholson and Damon as actors but Jack made me rethink that watching this. The ending, oh man, that was great.
My only gripe, Scorcese needs to get off the rolling stones kick.

I know you said you don't really care.. but you should still check it out. It will work as a totally different movie, but a lot of the scenes are direct pulls.
Go see Infernal Affairs. Now.
Go on, do it.
DO IT!
I am a big Infernal Affairs advocate.

And I'm a big Scorcese advocate...Most of departed was obviousl Marty feel (I'd say 80 percent) but man, that ending had to be outta that other flick because it was so fresh and new. I may check it out, but I personally like Marty's slamming irish men as crooks...damn micks! (kidding, their not crooks, just bomb experts IRA :)...can you tell I love my heritage?haha)

Yeah, well, I live here, most are crooks. ;)
The ending was changed, and is slightly different. Infernal Affairs DVD has an alternative ending on it aswell, so you could think of it as... THREE DIFFERENT ENDINGS!

Hey Hey don't go knocking the Irish now that's my grandfathers birthplace. Ya mick hating Mick :p
I'll probably buy this on DVD seeing as how I'm a huge Scorcese fan. Then again Dicrapio and Hillary Swank in drag kinda make me not want to buy it but Netflix it.

I saw Infernal Affairs a couple of years ago, and I liked it, and I like Asian cinema in general, but I like the Departed better.

Ohhhhhhh shame on you! LoL I guess I just hate Leonardo DiCaprio doing an Irish accent, ever since Gangs of New York.

Wow, there's a b_tch slap to the back of the head ! I usually like Damon in most of his flicks, I liked this movie, as a matter of fact one of the best from Martin. But Damon was down right flat in this role. And, the kid is from Boston, I really think the accent was over acted. For someone from Boston, the accent shouldn't seem like an act....but hey, that's just me.
I gotta go pak the ca in tha drivwa !

I enjoyed it. It kept a great pace, but I didn't quite like the ending... I felt like it was missing one piece of information.

I personally like the fact that Leo do accents now. Remember in Man In The Iron Mask when he pronounced the Three Musketeers' name all wrong? He was supposed to be a French king for crap sake!

I'm from the Boston area, and I'll say that Leo and Matt didn't do a bad job with the accent. Mark Wahlberg does it well, but he's from Dorchester and nobody from Doawchestah could screw up the accent. The WORST is Ben Affleck, his acted Boston accent is over the top and he's from the area too, and don't get me wrong, I don't hate the guy like a lot of people. Matt and Ben grew up in Cambridge, which is a little more richie for sure, but still, I grew up out here in the burbs and my accent comes out in effect when I'm being loud or goofy. Robin Williams did a good job in Good Will Hunting.
