Since I upgraded, things have been sluggish, it has locked up a few times when doing something as simple as a copy-n-paste. It's not my computer, I should have plenty of "horsepower" to handle it, I ran all the maintainence before and after installing the upgrade. It's pretty damned frustrating.

No. it's a beast to be sure, but i don't have any more issue with it than I did with CS...in fact, it's slightly better.

Yep. Same here. No problems. Shit now that I said something it's gonna crash.

That was my plan! Now it will turn on you and leave me alone!!

Ihad no trouble with CS...it ran like a dream for me. I'm just going to do maintainance 30 more times and reinstall the upgrade and see what happens.

Oh, yeah...anyone else HATE the scrolling in CS2?? In CS the little trackball on my might mouse was awesome...i could scroll left, right and diagonal just by moving my finger. In CS2 it will only go up and down, or if you hold down a button on the keyboard it will only go side-to-side. Why do they alway do that? I can;t even count the times I've gotten "new and improved" software or "revamped and improved" website that is LESS user friendly or functional. GAH!!! Rant done.

I used to have a lot of problems when I first upgraded to CS2... I'd get frequent crashes for no apparent reason, etc. It sometimes even crashed as it was opening up (usually around the time when the fonts loaded, go figure)...

Jason Arthur (I believe it was) told me a nifty little trick about deleting the preferences file and restarting Illustrator... but I can't remember where the file was located (I'm on a Mac now)...

Jason?

Am I really going mental, or was that you?

Yeah, try deleting your preferences file (it doesn't delete anything important...though you may need to reprgram your "actions" ... I forget).

Then, when you re-open Illustrator it will make a new prefs folder. This time, hopefully, without the garbage that made it crash on you.

Check out Adobe's site, last time I checked they had quite a few updates for CS2 (even the trial gave people trouble).

Also, make sure you have enough ram and memory. It that's not the problem, back up your hard drive. Then store non essential items on a disc or external hard drive. When I cleaned up my computer, it got much faster.

The inking program can be slow if you don't have enough ram or free memory.

I'll try dumping the prefs.

And I know in my case it's not memory or anything. At least it shouldn't be.

Okay, while we're talking Illustrator...is there any way to limit which fonts show up in the font JUST in Illus? There are about a bazillion fonts the computer tells me I might not want to deactivate (on the machine as a whole) because it could affect certain programs...but I don't want to scroll through miles of fonts I'll never use in a comic all the time. I know there's a way to do this and I'm blanking.

Okay, now this piece shit program is crashing MORE. And now won't even open.

In 3 days I've managed to get about 6 hours work done because of this damned software.

Is there a way for you to go back to CS?

Sounds to me like you should call Adobe and have them troubleshoot you and possibly replace the software.

You may want to use Font Book and deactivate a lot of your fonts and then re-open Illustrator. If I recall correctly Illustrator will take a while to open the first time after deleting prefs.

hmmm... I don't know. Sounds like you might have TOO many fonts.

Nope. I have all the fonts deactivated that I can (or want to).

But, for some damned reason, it now works fine. For the past hour or so it's been working as well and as fast as CS ever did. *SIGH* It just started working all of a sudden. Frickin' technology.
