DC needs to have a set of Hard backs that are the definative Origin stories for the core Charecters.
Superman---doesn't have a current origin..and the shoddy Birthright has leaves alot to be desired...and Infinite Crisis has already mentioned Clark being Superboy at one point it would be nice to eliborate.
Batman--- you can't get better than year 1
Flash--- which one?
Green lantern--- closes thing I can think of would be REBIRTH...but it would be great For Geof to write a new "origin story" and have Ethan draw it.
Wonder woman--- again thanks to Infinite Crisis she nees a fresh start as well
MArtian Manhunter-- needs a new origin story
Aquaman--- in desperate need for a new origin story of Orin
and the set can be finished with a new JLA origin book!
Who wouldn't buy this set???
Plus it would solidify and define the new DC universe !

Birthright was excellent. Supes' ability to see life aura was a great touch from that story that sticks out in my mind.
We don't need definitive origins. They're gonna get changed anyway. Besides the retellings allow for some nice stories. I liked Barry Allen's where he became the lightning bolt that created the Flash.

Yeah, origins change too much in DC. Batman's origin has already changed from Year One in that after Infinite Crisis it's been mentioned that Bruce Wayne's parents' murderer was caught.

Read the oversized JLA: Secret Origins by Dini & Ross from a couple of years back.
THAT is the difnitive origin of most of the main DC characters right there.

Ok....could they at least put that 1 volume in a hard back...I have the soft cover.....But the flashes origin is all confusing now....Hawkman's origin is deferent now..in my oppion better.... so if they could fix 1 or 2 charecters it would be great

I disagree... you mention the definitive origins for these characters and no matter how often they change or who takes their place, the contents of the Ross/Dini Secret Origins book will always be just that.

The Ross/Dini book is pretty much the character's iconic, Silver Age origin. Most of the characters will diverge from that over time, and yet keep returning to it. I suspect the current incarnations are closer to those Silver Age versions now.
Exceptions:
Hawkman Carter Hall is the Golden Age character
Flash--Different Flash for different times, each with their own origin. Barry Allen's origin is probably still the same.

I agree, Birthright is very shoddy. I also agree, the Ross/Dini books give us the best look at each of those character's origins.

Frank hates modern comics, so why bother asking?
I haven't read Birthright, but it's on my list of TPBs to pick-up

I liked Birthright. I don't give a damn about the origin story, I just love how Leinil Yu draws Superman.

latecomer.... just read birthright....
i'd have to put my hat in there with enjoying birthright, it gave us some origin stuff but at the same time left things open, which to me is great, cuz as already noted, different generations will want to update the origin for their generation
