Nice work as always Jake. Did you do your own inks?

hi j giar

no, i did not ink these nor the sequential pages. i take a horribly long time to ink a single page.

a very very good inker by the name of Ignacio Calero is inking this. i'll ask him if he can post some of his inks here. :)

Nice pics. Digging the Jeff page the most - mainly because of the zombie transformation. The one thing that bothers me is the large and slightly ugly ear on the Kristy pic, it actually makes her look abit dumb (hard to explain why, but it does)

Great shadows and nice clean pencils. Will be checking the comic out!

...poor cute puppy, I have a bad feeling about him.

These are really excellent character studies, Jake. But yeah, sevans mentioned your penchant for large ears and how it can be a bit distracting. Gotta make sure to watch for that. Of course, it could also end up being your trademark! :D

Hope the work is coming along well.

hi guys,

thanks for all your comments. :)

as for the ear, this is the original drawing i did for the kristy noble character

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b42/jakebilbao/Jakebilbao_MattYocum_KristyNoble.jpg

matt asked me to show her ears because it could add to her vulnerability to the story.

it might pop out a bit because there not enough shadow to slightly push it into her hair, but this could be helped in the colors department, which by the way is non existent. this will come out in black and white :) meaning, i'll have to rely on ignacio's inking to make this look better. :har: :har: i'm telling you, this guy is simply amazing! hope he can post his inks here or at the inker's forum. :)

by the way, matt had me do a logo cover art for this story. this is what i came up with. :)

Jake,
Not that you need the pointer...but to keep my ears (not mine literally...hmm though they are rather large.) I use the middle of the eye and the bottom of the nose to keep the ear size in line or from getting to...bulbous? Or out of whack? love the portrait of the flesh eater.

Hi Jim,
Thanks for the advice. I'll try and follow it.

Hi Scribbly,
Now that you mentioned it, I patterned the character design for Jeff Acton after my likeness. I slimed him down quite a bit and bulked him up a bit. At the time I drew him I was sporting quite unruly haircut same as the character design.

The website for Devolution is www.ComicCritique.com where you'll find high and low resolution versions. He's done an amazing job on the art, so I hope people can check it out. It's come out in weekly installments up through seven installments, which completes the first issue. After that will be a break for a few weeks to get ahead on issue two's installments. Once we're ahead of the game on issue two, we'll then start releasing them weekly.

Jake has more stuff to see that we're hoping to show to Marvel - you can find them at the sequential art forum.
