My style is actually cleaner but I felt this conveyed the Punisher a bit more.

I'm not really feeling the perspectives on the background, but i really like what you did with frank himself. You need a little practice, his shoulder looks wonky as hell but his face has some personality which is kinda rare around here.

This should have the feeling of lots of levels of depth, but it actually comes across very flat. I suppose some practice with perspective and "rounding out" the figure would help. The face looks good.

Decent! Looks like you put a lot of thought and effort into it. How old are you?

Areas to improve; backgrounds. Do a little research on buildings and fire escapes. Also, those giant hatch marks are screwing up your perspective illusion.

I urge all punisher artists (or other militaristic artists) to do some research and see how people hold guns and what a gun looks like. Just a little thing but it'll make your pic look 3x better.

The first thing that I saw was that his face/skull structure actually looks kind of skewed... And with that being the focus point threw off the rest of the picture anyway.

Draw a centre line down his skull and you'll see that HIS left side has ALOT more width on his forehead than the right. Faces are never mirror images, but this amount of difference IMO actually makes him look slightly deformed.

On the plus side, Nice to see a whole variety of inking styles used.

Looks good , just take the earlier mentioned advice. :)

Good that you are not cheating in any way... swipes are clear as day, and can be seen for miles.
I get the sense you visualized this drawing in its entirety. In other words, you drew it completely out of your head. Kudos.

I believe that it is not a bad thing to use reference for some sections of your artwork... for example the gun... there is no one who looks at this Punisher pic who would doubt that he is holding a big honking gun-- that's because all of us, including you are familiar with the character and his M.O.

What if the viewer had never seen the movie, or a comic, or an action figure with him in it... would they know it was a gun? Or would they think it is some guy holding a taco filled with a corndog? Getting a picture of someone holding a gun from that point of view... or having someone hold a toy gun for you to see what that would look like if you don't already have that committed to memory is not cheating... and will definitely make the end results stronger.

I like that you penciled and inked this pic... maybe next time you can post the pencils to your pics before you ink them up. It is a great way to see if you threw out the baby with the bathwater in the inking stage... or the other way around.

keep having fun with it... and welcome to the DW

I just looked at it again... and there is nothing in that picture that "says punisher" to me-- all that is giving it away is two teeth from the famous logo showing under the jacket on his stomach. The only reason we even know those two sections are teeth, is because we already seen the logo in its entirety elsewhere, and you 'told' us this is supposed to be the Punisher in the title of the thread.

We as the artist, cannot rely solely on the text to get the idea across. Clear your mind... forget what you know, and that you drew this pic... does the drawing say punisher... and if so, where is the evidence? It could easily be some guy from a million other comic books or movies... if this was not a message board that posts primarily comic book character artwork, we would not even assume he came from a comic book at all.

Maybe a skull button on his sleeve, or something, anything... Superman without the "S" on his chest and the "s" curl on his forehead is just some random guy who wears his underwear on the outside of his clothes. (Text should augment our artwork, not rely too heavily on it.)
