I have a draw-off running about a Logo and Title for an upcoming book called Tragic the Clown.

Are logos usually designed by letterers?
I thought about going about designing my own, but I would want it looking clean and sharp. Is that a vector issue? You guys think it's wise leaving it up to a contest to decide?

speaking from a graphic designer's standpoint, a contest is a bad idea. you should just hire someone to do it.

i don't know, i think the contest is a great idea. it lets folks try things they might not normally try without the stress involved with trying out for a specific job. sometimes you get gold when someone throws it out there on a whim. and if all else fails you can take the one you like best and have the winner modify to suit your needs.

I think most are done by letterers, yes...at least i make a decent sideline doing them.
