Hey guys... I've tried Illustrator help and google searches already with no luck...

I need to text a block of text and drop the background out of it, allowing artwork to show through WITHOUT showing anything outside of the lettering.

Basically a quick and easy clipping mask using the letters as the mask.

Make sense?

I did it the other day with a click of my mouse and now I'm clueless as to how I did it.

thanks guys,

The mask you make has to be on the top of the stack or the uppermost object for it to work Jason. Could that be what you forgot? When the mask is on top and you select > Object > Clipping Mask > Make, it should work. Hope this helps.

Outline your text, make it a compound path, put the art that you want to show through in the layer behind the text, and go Object> Clipping Mask> Make

(Or Command/Ctrl +7)

**Edit: Beat me to it. lol!
