I've been posting projects I did at Joe Kubert's School of Cartooning and Graphic Art (JK) throughout my first/second and now my third year there to give you all somewhat of an idea of how the classes are run. And to get some constructive criticism from you all of course! Any questions welcome...I'll try best to answer them ...but please check out their website first! www.kubertsworld.com :D

Color Illustration II w/Toby Cypress: We had to draw two (or more) interacting, animated (real or otherwise) figures/beings in a sci-fi (fantasy/surreal) setting/environment. BUT most importantly, it had to have a color scheme. (12X18 or something, pencil, acrylic paints, airbrush)

"Split Complementary...uses a color and the two colors adjacent to its complementary. This provides high contrast without the strong tension of the complementary scheme."

Have a comment? Complaint? Opinion? Feel free to leave a message and I'll get back to you! ;)

Small one to see the whole comp at a glance.

Wow
thats really fantastically randomly awesome
i love how both the tree and the girls skin are more reddish than a traditional browny-type color---it really makes the picture pop off the page. the face at the trunk is a great addition as well. basically this is fantastic and you did a great job. congrats!! :kewl: :carrot:

Always spiff-o stuff Nicole,... that said and all, let's critique. Shall we?
I actually feel a bit to the contrary as theGirlWonder32 in that I feel like the flesh and the barks tones run a little too close together, kind of refusing the girl the definition she deserves.
While it's simply a matter of preference,... I really think the pink of the leaves feels kink of wrong. It's like, Mr. Tree-Man's all crotchety and dead lookin',... but he spits these cotton candy, pink leaves?... Again,... just preference.
Lastly, her right leg. With the perspective of the pic, I can't help but think that the bottom of the leg is a bit too long. Also, perhaps it (the whole leg) should have been just the tiniest bit thinner to show that it's farther back than the left one.
To me it looks like it's being pulled straight-up out of her butt-cheek and not spread and bent at the knee as I believe you were trying to communicate.
That's it. Shredding over.
By the way,... paint me something with those dyes. You're gettin' really smooth with 'em. :)

Thanks, theGirlWonder32. I'm glad you think so! :D

Thank you for the comments, Lord Bejj! Flow...yes, that's what I like. :)

Ben Dennis: Stranger Danger! I appreciate the critique. It was difficult working with the limited pallet. I tried my darndest to get her to still be fleshy and the treee to be barky while keeping to the color scheme. I didn't want it to be obvious that it was a basic color scheme.

That being said, BD...the cotton candy, pink leaves are supposed to be cherry blossoms being sucked in by the tree...it's taking her innoscence as it were. I guess I could have put some growing on the tree, but that may have made 'him' less crotchety and dead lookin'.

Excuses aside, I agree with the anatomy issue, Mr. Dennis...but I tried and tried to tie her up, but my live in model just wouldn't stop fighting back. So sorry... ;)

Spacious Interior: It's only fun if you make it fun....fun just doesn't spew out of the instructors like confetti...you have to keep jabbing them in the side till they break. :p

BEN DENNIS: That's enough of that!
