Thanks for all the compliments.
Jake: yeah, i was trying to convey that she was pandering the viewer's fate, but neither I nor the commissioner liked it.

I'm really digging the size idea with the ring around her waste. Nicely thought out.

I too agree with the second one being the best, only problem I see is that her arms are too small.....or maybe it's just me.

Thanks everyone, I prefer #2 as well, yet the Commissioner opted for #3.
Giddy1: too small? as in too narrow or too short?

Too short in my opinion. I think if you just expand them outward a bit, it'd look much better.

I'm really liking the concept.
My one issue is her footwear. She's a faerie, she flies, to me, she looks like she should be wearing lighter books, no heels, something more delicate.
edit-I posted this before I saw the colours. It's not as strong as it was when we saw the black and whites. I wouldn't show any skin, it just doesn't work. I would make it a full body costume as I think it would look sexier and classier. sometimes the less you show, the better!
Keep it up, I can't wait to see the finished product

cool, cool, cool. great idea. but here, in the colors, you weaken things. the colors themselves aren't on the same level as the concept, but worse, they detract from the power of the piece; the ring around the waist was one of the cooler things about this character but now that's been diluted by the other glowing, bigger, rings on her wings...i'd lose them, or make sure to minimize their effect on the overall composition so that the ring around her waist stands out.
fun stuff, thanks for sharing.

rummblestrips - Yeah, i agree with you totally, but this is a commission. I do as the commissioner requests.
Seriously, y'all think my colors weaken it? Wow, kinda hurt my feelings. I admit I'm not a colorist (not even a good inker), but I still thought I were better than average. Any suggestions on how to strengthen my coloring? (and please no color theory comments, already took that class and I understand the concepts of colors.)

Ok, I'll try, but I'm not an expert either. On her skin tones for example, instead of going a shade of grey, why not try something with some more colour with more rose tones maybe. When you're shading her skin, are you just darkening the actual skin tone with the darken tool or are you colouring over with a different colour? (I hope that question makes sense)
I've found when you use the darkening tool for all shading, the effect can be dull and flat.

rummblestrips - I use a painterly style, I start with a base color, then choose darker shades to shadow and then pick lighter tones to highlight. I need to find someone to explain this whole "cuts" style of coloring.

This is good, I like the colors. I agree about the lanterns on her wings, I wouldn't mind to see those gone. This is a really cool idea! Now about the shoes...I believe the only women's footwear fit for fighting crime, saving the world, slogging through swamps and bloody battlefields is the spike heel! It's the only shoe that will hold up to the grueling wear and tear, be comfortable, and look good!

I got commissioned to do Faerie Lantern's counterpart in the Sinestro Corps
She's not 100% done, gotta do her background and props
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v331/skotti-chan/Sinestra-clr.jpg
I like it, but other than the gold ring...which could be any gold ring...I'm not getting a Sinestro vibe. Any chance of going red with her?

Sadly no, the commissioner is very specific as to what he wants. Now I have to finish the details and background and such, including detailing the ring.
On the red/pink note, the next in the series is Star Sapphire

Brilliant!
Yo Skotti, whats up.
Well, you came a long way Id say. I remember seeing your work here a while back. Good to see improvement.
Anways who cares about that right?
Lets get to it.
I think your penciled work (2nd version like many agreed on) is exceptional.
The colors are decent and all, but i wasnt expecting to see that style on this piece of work. Its no big deal but if you want it to be, it can be.
I cant say very much about colors in general and I hate the color wheel talk. But I will say that I wish I could see it toned in more of a painted look rather than the classic Image style of coloring only because your work has so much empty space to work on, it should really be pushed to its limits.
As far as some helpful suggestions go, I wouldve probably lightened the color of each green lamp logo on the character (not the ones projected.) so that the projected lamps look like they are being projected and not a layer mistake instead.
When working with color effects like lights and flashes, its very important to use multiple layers and playing opacity levels and filters to help accomplish a powerful look to the effect you were trying to convey.
Please dont get discouraged or feel like this is an atempt to knock your color work down.
Im liking this very much. Just for the future, wether its a commission or not (i f-king hate commissions), you can get your way so much better.
Can I ask you a question? Yes? Ok good.
Are you at all or ever have worked on a book?
Keep rockin
evil artist.
