So what does Jason do in this, writer/director I take it?
I think it's pretty cool he's managed this and the comic.

Awesome, thanks! I created a redirect at http://www.asylumink.net/ellium for faster navigation.

As for the DVD, here's from the Asylum website:

Asylum Ink (www.AsylumInk.net) is proud to announce the grand opening of the Asylum!

Unveiling our idea of sequential and animated entertainment, we at the Asylum offer up ELLIUM: RISE OF THE FALLEN (www.asylumink.net/ellium), a 1½ hour DVD filled with conspiracy, horror, and dismemberment set for official release in May, 2007.

Blending traditional illustrations of the dark variety with animation, ELLIUM: ROTF is the answer to anyone looking to experience the NEW and slightly TWISTED. Not frivolous exercises in mindless entertainment, Asylum Ink DVD’s still insist on audience participation in the form of text but we merrily supply a soundtrack worthy of your ears!

Providing the immeasurable audio for our DVD venture is our friend and musical composer Scott Licina (EARTH X soundtrack for Alex Ross and Marvel Comics; PURGATORI score for Chaos! Comics) and the critically acclaimed comic series G.R.A.V.E. GRRRLS, of which Scott is also co-creator and writer. He brings his decades of experience working in the music and comic book industries to the Asylum, providing the very best in auditory stimulation.

...Look forward to teaser trailers and extended scenes of ELLIUM: RISE OF THE FALLEN as May 2007 nears and as always, enjoy your stay in the Asylum!

Sincerely,

The Administration

This looks cool. It's a big thing to get a film made of your character/comic. You don't realise what a monumental thing it is until you go through the process yourself (as I did with The Wraith). Congrats JasonM

Hey Jason, when will there actually be a trailer so we can see what you are doing. The concept sounds neat but I want to see what you are doing.

I'm probably releasing the first teaser mid January, another teaser in Feb, a full preview in March, and 10 minutes on the web in April. That's the idea at least!

I swear, every week the project bounces from 2 weeks ahead to three weeks behind to another week ahead! How is that even possible in one weeks time!?? Good news is it'll definitely be done in time for May (more then likely everything will be wrapped up in February).

So far I've shown a few samples around and received some encouraging comments so I'm pretty anxious for May!

Jason,

Interesting trailer. I really like the music too. I've been following your free online story and didn't even realize you had some stuff in print (Ellium Collection). I think I'm going to order this. Good luck and congrats on your success!

(ahem... me... lol).

I was tempted to go for distribution first but the more I read into it, the more sense it made to do the first one myself since it'll be a series.

So what do I call this? It's not animation, its not a comic book... I've heard a suggestion of "Animated Script", but to me it sounds unfinished. Any thoughts?

You need to make a live-action film.

ooooookkkkkk..... any thoughts on a descriptive title instead of a complete change in artistic direction? :p

I meant as a follow-up to your first production.

I meant as a follow-up to your first production.

Ah! Makes more sense lol! We'll, I'd never say know if the offer came along, but to spear head it, I'd need a clone to take care of the other obligations!

(then of course the clone becomes evil, steals my life and leaves me with nothing but a quest for revenge... clones are never a good idea!)

The live action film off the ground yet?

Jason Powell

Jason, it looks good and I like the idea but the word balloons disappear too fast some times and I think it will be hard to keep people's interest cause you want to focus on the art also and you can't read the balloons and look at the art at the same time in this media. The reason it works in comics is you have all the time in the world to do both. I know this is just the beginning of this venture of yours but I suggest movie towards getting people to do voice over instead of balloons if you can. Also I would look into getting better music.

Anyway, as far as a name, I think you would call this "STILL ANIMATION" because you are animating still pics not animating a script.

Thanks for the comments!

I'm staying away from voice actors for now, people tend to hate voice actors if they're not quality and I can't afford quality voices and recordings yet. There's a few other reasons why we're staying away from voices as well.

As for the timing, it won't fit everyone and we knew that going in. It was a risk that had to be taken but we did our research and based it on standard subtitling speeds plus gave it a little bit of padding. Over all it's tested well for the timing but I can understand feeling a little rushed at time. Worse case, there's always pause at least.

It's a different kind of medium and we fully understand that. All we ask is that people give it a shot, after that, they're welcome to love it or hate it on it's own merrits, but it was fun to do and we look forward to doing a new disk for next year!

Just a little bump.

I'll be receiving the DVD's from the manufacturer next week, and they will be shipped the first week in May. Shipping is free, so if you are interested and if you don't attend the Motor City comicon in May, online orders are the way to go. Also, plese feel free to suggest your local retailer carry it too. All support is appreciated!
