Yeah, it's true.

Dark Horse Book of Monsters (just came out, go tell your local store to order you one). I lettered the final story of the book (Evan Dorkin and Jill Thompson wrote and illustrated respectively).

Also in the same book: Mignola, Gianni, Busiek, Clem Robins (!), Nate Piekos (!), and Comicraft's Richard Starkings (!) Among many, many other wonderful creators.

So big thanks to Clem for helping me land the job and Scott Allie for letting me do my thing. Jill Thompson for being so cool to work with and Evan Dorkin & Sarah Dyer for crafting such a fun, all-ages story.

You can see a sample here: 5 Page Sample of Dark Horse Book of Monsters (http://www.publishersweekly.com/article/CA6386661.html&nid=2789)
Story: Evan Dorkin and Sarah Dyer. Illustrations: Jill Thompson.

Fun aside: can you tell if it's hand lettered or computer lettered? :)

Congrats Jason, that absolutely rocks, man!

Looks hand-lettered to me, so I'm gonna guess it's a trick question, and you did it on the computer.

Congrats! Great work.

I've always dug Jill Thompson's art to. I didn't know about the book.

I'll Christmas shop for myself and pick up a copy.

That question might be slightly tougher to answer if you didn't you the same burst twice in the same panel. :whistlin:

Hehehe. I shoulda used the good ole' transform feature in Illustrator huh?

The balloons, tails, bursts and all that were hand-drawn by Jill Thompson. I scan them in and made vector images out of them so she can use this to speed up her process down the line.

So yeah, computer lettered.

thanks gang,

thanks everyone.

It was a bit nerve-racking lettering over unfinished pencils. I knew Jill was painting the pages and I kept worrying that my border-butting and masking behind objects wouldn't work properly when married to the artwork, but the pre-press guys at Dark Horse are amazing (as is Jill, obviously).

I appreciate the hell out of all you guys in this forum, you're the best.
