Hi! Sarah, thanks again for the crits. ;)
You are right am using lot of soft brush to my color that looks like eye candy style. I used soft brush to blend colors. I see your point about hard edge brush stroke that you usually used from your digital painting and that's your style. I like soft brush it helped me easily to blend multiple colors.
Here's my brush that I used to all of my digital painting.
http://img122.imageshack.us/img122/6434/usingmybrushug3.jpg
The digital painting using mouse, you are right i used lasso tool to guide my brush stroke. Am an newbie with digital painting and still doing some experiment on how to achieve the same style with tablet. Now that i have tablet, I never used lasso tool to guide my brush stroke.
Thanks again for the crits and advice.

I dunno Sarah, Bluepen has done some really cool stuff. Hes old post has been eliminated, so hes just throwing stuff up now. Hes pretty good at comics, and his new digi paintings are getting better

Bluepen, I think your stuff is great. Everything in the picture can be seen and is seperated, doesn't look muddy at all to me. Love it

I've been watchin Blue for a long time. He's good, but Sarah does have a point about the highlights. A lot of his stuff is missing some brighter highlights that would help pop things just a little bit more. For the most part it tends to look like shadows and midtones. Some brighter highlights would add a whole new contrast to the colors.
You do do a good job with blending yer tones though Blue. Yer tones are usually nice and diffused where it starts merging into the shadows areas.

i love that page XD
i was waiting for you to finish it for in your previous posts it was my fave.
the thing that sticks out to me the most was something that was apparent even in your WIP. one thing, that if done consistantly would really upset your editors.
in half the panels the colors of the guy are very inconsistant. in panel one, his cape is much more orange than in the other panels. in panel 2, his skin is much more orange and saturated than in panel 3, in panel 2 the face mask is very blue compared to panel 3. in those two panels the most stuff is different, it's everything! his hair in panel 2 is ash blond, but in panel 3 it's very yellow, and his glove in that same panel is lavender while it's blue in panel 2.
the best way to avoid making those mistakes, is dont paint one panel at a time when they all contain the same character, the best way is to finish one thing (like his skin) in every panel before moving on to the next element.
the whole thing screams for some more contrast due to how bright that sky is, and also, the green you used for the grass really isn't working.

Thanks Sarrah for the crits! That's my style of coloring. In a real camera view you'll never see the same light/FX/Shading of colors in one perspective. The page has different panel, views, angle and light. Environment has an effect to my subject, though am still in progress of mastering on how the environment will affect your subject. In my coloring I always view my piece in 3D. You'll notice some of my work has 3d look a like.
Some colorist used, contrast, flat, tone, grayish and etc. In my color am combining contrast and mid tone colors. You already said it exactly from your first reply.
With this book my client like my colors he said "It looked amazing. It is gorgeous." so am on the right path to continue the coloring style am using.
King/Mudcat thanks bro! ;)

Wow thats some angry posting there sarah. As a side observer of the two of you on the last crit he did just explain himself as to what he was doing. And in fairness to pen, that is a beautiful page. I understand where you are coming from with the sameness in color throughout, but he does have a point. The way the light hits and shows in some panels is one thing. But if there is a change of mood, or a flicker of light change the colors CAN (not always) change considerablly. Just my POV. You both have some nice stuff going on. Love bother your works. And I am sure pen appreciates your critiques. Peace ya'll

This is my last book and first time to do gray scale for Pariah.
http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/2207/cantresistthecolorpp5.jpg
I have no idea how to do gray scale in comic but I know a bit color toning for manga. For this book I wanted pariah pages to be look good though am not familiar using gray scale.
Since this is my first grayscale work, i applied the same procedure I used with my coloring but with gray palette (no colors). I used Painted style for this book.
While looking at my work, I CANT RESIST to see my work in color ahehehe of course am a COLORist.
I played with the 2nd panel. When i finished grayscale, I selected the 2nd panel to color using selection from flat color layer. Then I adjusted the hue/saturation to change my grayscale in color.
Ahehehe see the outcome, from grayscale to color.
I think this method is faster than coloring the whole page.
First apply grayscale to your page then select the part you want to change for color and then use hue/saturation tools for adjustment.
Viola!!! Instant color! I'll practice this method for my new tricks... bah Toink! toink!
Sorry my English is terrible!

EON Illustration Entry - done with wacom tablet
http://img249.imageshack.us/img249/1425/eonillustrationchallengug6.jpg
The 21st century was on the brink of nuclear confrontation when the 300 kilometer-long stone flashed out of nothingness and into Earth's orbit. NASA, NATO, and the UN sent explorers to the asteroid’s surface… and discovered marvels and mysteries to drive researchers mad.
For the Stone from space but perhaps not our space; it came from the future - but perhaps not our future; and within the hollowed asteroid was Thistledown. The remains of a vanished civilization. A human - English, Russian and Chinese- speaking - civilization. Seven vast chambers containing forests, lakes, rivers, hanging cities…
And museums describing the Death; the catastrophic war that was about to occur; the horror and the long winter that would follow. But while scientists and politicians bickered about how to use the information to stop the death, the stone yielded a secret that made even Earth’s survival pale into insignificance…
Originally published in 1985, EON stands as one of the great science fiction novels of our time and remains one of Greg's Bear's best selling titles. It is truly vast in scope. Entrants are allowed to create their work based on any part of EON, however we have selected a set of scenes, locations and events as preferred themes - this will aid people not familiar with EON.

that Eon piece looks cool, I have a question however, and I am only asking out of pure curiosity
Are the characters painter overs? because one of them is obviously Leo,
I say painter overs because the perfect rendering on those characters is completely different from what appears in your comic work,
I'm interested in the steps you took to achieve this piece, could you show a step by step sometime?

Hi! KIERAN OATS.
Nah, it's not paint over it is purely digital painting using photoshop, from pencil to Digi paint. here's the WIP (work in progress) (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?postid=3991739#post3991739)
1st: I do pencil sketches for my Illutration.
2nd: I gather some model/background Reference.
3rd: I draw my characters based from my Model reference.
4th: I do my digital painting over my pencil/inked drawing. buy adjusting the opacity t0 20%.
5th: the background.
6th: Done. just purely brush stroke, using soft and hard brush.

I just want to share you guys, my newbie colors. That time am not
a colorist, just a simple hobbiest. To tell you frankly am ignorant using
panels and letterings. I've created this comic pages planning to see
my work in print, but due to high cost printing. This project stays in
my HD. Until i learned how to color the real comic pages, a self study
for almost 6 months before getting offered a job in comic as colorist.
After doing some professional job, whenever i see this page. I lol
myself how newbie I was, I don't know how to use the proper lettering,
the use of panels. ahehehe. What do you expect to a person without
the knowledge of doing comics? I learned a lot for the past 3 years
i worked in comic business.
Really funy comics for me... So here it is, enjoy...

Old stuff. One of my first digi-paint using solid/spray brush with 10% - 60% opacity and done with a mouse. You can spot the brush stroke interval. Using wacom tablet can avoid this gap. Sometimes looking back at your old stuff is fun, you can't imagine that you do such thing before... lol

Old stuff again. Well this one is my frustration for getting publish my own comic, but because of printing cost my plan to self publish my own comic are still a dream. Hmmm... I heard that DC will launch Zuda comics and they're accepting submission. I guess I'll give a try and translate this tagalog version in English format. Who know's maybe by luck this 8 pages story will got a slot? lol dreaming....

I can't believe this post is still alive. Anyway, hi bluepen. I'm coloring again. Ano project natin ngayon?
For the sake of this post, I use a mouse to color. I design using a tablet but when coloring I switch to my mouse. Here you can check out my deviant for some proof. More stuff to come, promise!www.enchance.deviantart.com (http://www.enchance.deviantart.com)
