Hahahaha. I ordered this because it was by Alan Moore. I thought it was going to be like FABLES or something, but with Dorothy & Co.
It's erotica.
That's what I get for just seeing something in the catalogue and telling my comic shop owner to snag it for me. I don't give a shit that it's erotica....I just, um, wasn't expecting this to be erotica!
I'm gonna read this hefty fucker because I paid $75 for it. I couldn't be less interested in erotica (I prefer Playboy myself  ), but I'm hoping it's good since Moore wrote it.
Anyone read it yet?

Dude, I don't exactly follow the release news all that carefully, but this has been pretty well publicized.
It's even been discussed here a few times.

I´ve missed this. Is it good? Is it -eh- groundbreaking? They say that the brain is the biggest sex organ, so it kinda makes sense that Alan would write erotica/porn/adult entertainment...

I am a Moore fan, and I saw few pages of it, it just seemed like erotic fan fiction compared to all of his stuff. I have no problem with erotic stuff, but I couldn't get into it in the least. Seems like the hype train is huge on this book, find a few preview pages before you think about buying though, you'll save yourself a few bucks if you end up hating it.

You have to compare the book to its own genre, not Watchmen .
Is it better than a Manara book?

Agreed........... though it wouldn´t hurt if he tried to make Lost Girls the Watchmen of erotica :p

Now THAT would be an achievement Eliseu.
However, think of how much erotica you'd have to read to have the kind of knowledge it would take to write a classic in the genre? I mean, I've read a million comics so I can safely say I can write them, but erotic comics, not so much.
That's a lot of dirty reading. :)

Yeah, that's why I just laughed when I got the set home and realized it was erotica......how the shit did I not read ANY of the topics about it?
I guess it's kinda like this: If there's something solicited that I know I'm going to get, i.e. work by Moore, I just order it and forget about it, taking no care to read about it up till its release. If something is solicited that I'm not sure if I want or not, I actually study up on it to see if it's for me.
And, well, that line of thinking kinda backfired on me.

Quality standards still apply, especially with a writer such as himself. It didn't read well at all, it felt very dumbed down. I'm not big on the genre, but a well written book is a well written book, regardless of genre.

LOL. That hit me when I got home, too. Before I left the shop the owner was like, "I betcha you're gonna go home and read it tonight, eh?", to which I was all like, "You bet your fucking ass I am!".

When Lost Girls came in my comic shop guy opened the shrink wrap on a copy just so we could see it. It's a great looking book.

I haven't had a chance to read it yet, but Alan Moore's reputation speaks for itself for me. If anyone can pull this idea off, it's him. I think it's a brilliant concept though and can't wait to get my hands on a copy. The first 2 printings sold out immediately, we're waiting for our third printings to come in.

Legally? I wasn't aware of any legal concerns regarding this book. Anything in particular?

Sorry Nitecrawlah2, I didn't see this post until now.
Back in May of this year, Diamond had decided not to distribute the book in Canada due to our Customs regulations and our laws criminalizing ANY portrayal of underage sex.
I still think there could be problems later on, as Customs Canada has cleared certain products under the free-trade agreement in the past, only to hit importers with fines years later when new laws came into effect.

That's been the controversy right? The 'girls' part.
It probably helps that it's drawn by his girlfriend so that it's less of an issue.
