BLOODRAYNE Fights
Her Way into Comics
August 12, 2004 -- Starting in December, Echo 3 Worldwide and Digital Webbing will bring Majesco’s BLOODRAYNE to comics. Timed to be published just after the release of the BLOODRAYNE 2 videogame, the BLOODRAYNE comics will be published as a series of full-color quarterly one-shots.
“We’re very excited to have acquired the exclusive BloodRayne comic book rights,” said Steven O'Connell, President of Echo 3 Worldwide and co-writer of the comic.
Adding to the excitement surrounding the release of the comic is the recent announcement of the BLOODRAYNE feature film, starring Kristanna Loken from “Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines,” which earned the comic a mention on MTV News.
“BLOODRAYNE has built a loyal following of fans and established herself as a new breed of action heroine,” said Ken Gold, vice president of Marketing for Majesco. “With a movie announced, and now a comic book, we’re thrilled to see our franchise expand into other entertainment mediums.”

The character of BloodRayne is a female dhampir, born from the unnatural union of vampire and human. Raised and trained to hunt supernatural evil, Rayne is blessed with the powers of a vampire, but cursed with an unquenchable thirst for blood and a weakness to sunlight.
“The character has so much untapped potential,” raves O’Connell. “A female half-vampire with a nice set of blades, cutting up dark nasties – what’s not to love? BLOODRAYNE is so visual and as long as we offer great writing to back up the great visuals, it’s a no-brainer!”
Although appearing two months after the sequel game hits the market, the first issue of the BLOODRAYNE comic will feature an original tale. “We take Rayne and plunk her down into a non-fiction setting. I don’t want to spoil the surprise, but it’s a great tale that takes place between missions in the first game.”
The first one-shot showcases the penciling talent of Romano Molenaar, former artist of PURGATORI, LADY DEATH, THE DARKNESS, and WITCHBLADE. Inking Moelenaar’s linework is Marco Galli, inker of several Top Cow books. Colors will be supplied by Blond, colorist of GHOSTBUSTERS and MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE. Writer O’Connell’s credits include the independent comedy film, “Rock Bottom” and TIGER WRAITH, published by Mammoth Press. Co-writer Jeffery Stevenson is a founder of the writing resource site, Scryptic Studios, a writer for Studio ICE, and the creator of the online strip “Brat-halla.”
