In case you don’t frequent the message forums or our front page. I thought it’d be worthwhile to mention that Digital Webbing is now on wowio. You can grab select comics in digital format for… hang onto something so you don’t fall down… for FREE!

First up is Crazy Mary and Abigail & Rox. Two one-shots we offered last year through comic shops. The reason we selected these titles is because they’ll both be continuing in digital format. That’s right, you’ll be able to read the continuing adventures for a simple download.

Within a couple months, we’ll be releasing some other titles such as Sword of Dracula (the original Image Comics series), Battle For Earth (including the unpublished 3rd issue), and Digital Webbing Presents. Stay tuned here for details.

Abigail & Rox Video Game?

Digital Webbing | Abigail & Rox 1 Comment »

From Joshua Gamon, creator of Abigail & Rox:

To coincide with the release of the upcoming miniseries ABIGAIL & ROX IN THE COURTSHIP OF ABIGAIL FELLOWS, I’m developing an A&R role playing game for the PC. It’ll be a 16-bit, turned-base RPG– visually similar to Final Fantasy II and III from the Super Nintendo era. Plus, more importantly it’ll be available for free. It’ll feature important scenes from the upcoming story, as well as extra content not found in the comics. Abigail and Rox will be playable characters, as well as Manchester Rabbit and Ace from Wonderland, among others!

Why a video game? Well, some people send out postcards to promote their books, others advertise. That’s just tradition. But I wanted to do something different. I wanted to make a video game to promote the upcoming miniseries. But I’m not going to lie, it’s an extremely difficult process to learn the program and develop it as I go. I am doing it all, myself, but I don’t mind. It’s all for the fans. However, I do not have a release date set for the game, but expect it around the end of summer.

Joshua Gamon Talks Abigail & Rox

Digital Webbing | Abigail & Rox, Interviews 2 Comments »

With the first Abigail & Rox in the Land of Enchantment one-shot, having landed in stores on August 1st and a second one announced series creator Joshua Gamon answers a few questions.

DIGITAL WEBBING: Why don’t you tell us about Abigail & Rox?

Joshua Gamon: Abigail & Rox is a raunchy comedy about two brothers from India who travel to New York to study the American girl, but complications arise when their pretentious grandmother comes along to chaperon. OK, not really. That’s actually my upcoming Bollywood pitch.

Abigail & Rox is about a little girl and her teddy bear that are sucked into a fantasy world inhabited by the world’s most endearing fairy tales at war with each other. Imagine if Calvin & Hobbes got busy with the Neverending Story, and had a child out of wedlock. In one aspect, the premise allows the reader to explore a world through the eyes of a child, the proverbial stranger in a strange land, but the world is still very rooted in the darker aspects of human nature—even when most of the characters are far from human. Even departed from the real world, those very real human emotions and self-destructive behaviors are still evident in the characters Abigail encounters. The Scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz fell victim to hisown intellect, and the loneliness of having no one to talk to drove him mad. Ichabod Crane, from Sleepy Hollow, is as cowardly as they come. Yet he becomes mayor of the book’s largest city, and he’s reluctantly thrown into the role of hero when his city becomes the center of the war. However, even when Abigail gets caught up in the madness, Rox is the one thing that grounds in reality. He’s her best friend, and the one link connecting her back to the real world.

So Abigail & Rox has a wide spectrum of concepts woven together by a single premise: the power of friendship empowers them with the courage to never give up hope even when trapped within the heart of darkness. And I do put these characters through hell.

Abigail & Rox is planned as a mini-series. So spread the word, generate buzz so we can get out the mini-series.

Geeks of Doom loves Abigail & Rox

Geeks of Doom has high praise for Joshua Gamon and Adrian Sibar’s Abigail & Rox in the Land of Enchantment, saying that the one-shot “conjures up memories of early 90’s Vertigo Comics fantasy”:

ABROX01_FC.jpg[Gamon's] version of Wonderland leans slightly more toward the anarchic attitude of American McGee version than the psychedelic mind trip of Disney’s interpretation (don’t worry, Abigail isn‘t armed with a knife). He has created in Abigail a fearless and strong-willed young girl that younger readers can identify with. She has positive attributes that girl readers can connect with, but certainly does not alienate potential boy readers. Gamon doesn’t treat his adult readers with kid gloves though, and in a telling strength to his writing abilities, has created a comic that is indeed for “all readers,” and like a fairy tale, different aged readers will get a different experience out of his tale.

… To further the Vertigo analogy, Sibar’s artwork here is slightly reminiscent of Jill Thompson fantasy-themed work with a dash of Sam Keith’s penchant for rounded shapes and figures. His colors take a small nod to The Wizard Of Oz, as his real-world is filled with drab grays where the only color seems to be purple. But once the transition is made to the Enchanted World, Sibar breaks out a full spectrum of bright and vivid colors. It is a perfect compliment to Gamon’s untamed imagination.
