Golden have no Sympathy For the Devil

Recently got a very interesting e-mail from Renee Witterstaetter whom I met at last years Gem City Con and saw again this fall at Mid-Ohio Con. She wanted to know if I would be interested in reviewing the first issue of a new three issue comic book series from Digital Webbing Comics entitled Demon’s Regret.

Me?

I had to e-mail her back……Me? I asked.

Believe it or not she wanted my opinion , I told her I would be happy to read it and she immediately sent me a copy of the first issue. Man……..am I glad she did!!!!

When was the last time you read a comic when the art and story was equal to each other? No killer storyline with stick figures or eye boggling artistic detail wrapped around some left over story idea gathering dust. Writer Mitch Brown and artist Wilfredo Torres shows the comic book world at large how a writer and artist is SUPPOSED to work together…and man am I freakin’ insane with jealousy !!!

When was the last time you put a comic book down and said to yourself….man that book was written just for me. I remember the last time that happened to me.1977……Avengers Annual #7 by Jim Starlin featuring the awe inspiring death of Adam Warlock. I do have to admit Loaded Bible -Jesus vs. Vampires comes awfully close……but Demon’s Regret #1.

Bullseye.

I mean……this story has all the elements I would have put in a story………..literally. Fallen Angels, (Asmodeus….Hell I’ve used this character before!!!! How close can you get……Mitch Brown get out of my head !!!) a war in Heaven….elements of ancient history……and the true final fate of the Zodiac killer!!!

What more do you want for $4.00?

But wait….there’s more. When disabled war veteran Fred Hudson learns his daughter’s been murdered….he gets to live out what 99.9% of any father who lost a love would want to live out. At least I would…all thanks to Asmodeus.

Asmodeus gets what he wants, Fred Hudson gets what he wants…….and you get what you want if you take a chance and pick up this book…….the only person who gets screwed over is the Devil…and hey….that’s how all stories should end, right?

One freakin’ head scratcher of a story.
