PUNKS: THE COMIC – Summer Special #1
By: Kurt Amacker, Columnist
Mania Rating
Grade: A

Punks: The Comic – Summer Special #1 finally lands after several months of anticipation, an early recommendation by Warren Ellis, and much praise lavished on Kody Chamberlain’s unique collage art. It tells a loosely constructed story of four roommates – Fist, Skull, Abe, and Dog – who thwart an alien invasion in between fighting amongst themselves. Chamberlain depicts the entire story in collage, with a stark visual style influenced by punk rock fliers and album covers. Joshua Fialkov’s story crackles with sight gags and absurdist humor.

NEWSARAMA Interviews Jason Henderson!

t_dracs_first_ever_app.jpg
Sword Of Dracula Creator Jason Henderson continues his publicity tour with another great interview at NEWSARAMA.

NRAMA: Just to clarify, Sword of Dracula/Vampirella: Extended and Dangerous is actually an extension of the short story that appeared in two issues of Vampirella Magazine, correct?

JH: Right, hence the name. It’s actually more new than old, though. Greg and I did a short story for Vampirella Magazine where Ronnie teamed up with Vampirella. When Greg expressed that he wanted to come back to Sword of Dracula and do one-shots, we realized we should probably start with Vampi, since there was so much more we could do there. For instance we could make it more about Dracula.

What happens in SOD/Vampi: Extended and Dangerous is that Ronnie raids a train that Dracula is traveling on with his court; her intention is to steal one witness, one vampire who can give her information about a secret new operator in the SOD world. Getting the witness off the train is like Mission: Impossible, fighting with vampires on the top of trains with choppers swooping in. Remember that Drac’s powers as manifested here are that he controls blood, he can sense the slightest cut, and he can throw chains of blood from his own body at you. There are pages of the whole that appeared before, but overall it is a new story. After that, it’s straight on to more Greg & Jason done-in-ones.

Baltimore Comic-Con

balt07booth_780169.jpgMike Imboden has been doing the Fist of Justice world tour and one of his recent stops was the Baltimore Comic-Con a couple weeks ago.  I gotta say, I’ve been extremely impressed at how the tables are shaping up with each passing convention. The more issues of FOJ being published, the fuller the table gets.  I especially love the rack that displays all the issues in order.

I’m not sure where the FOJ co-creator will appear next, but you can bet it’ll be announced here. Look for the all-new Fist of Justice #1 in better comic shops this December.

BR: Visions Limited Edition Revealed

Digital Webbing | BloodRayne, Sneak Peek No Comments »

BRVisions_01v.jpgJust when I hadn’t any plans to offer a variant for the upcoming Visions of BloodRayne book, I had a brainstorm. I’ve always wanted to see a cover like this, so it made sense an art of BloodRayne book should have it. This will be an extremely limited edition, probably like 200 copies and only available at conventions and through our online store.

Visions of BloodRayne will be in stores this December (just in time for Christmas). It’s a perfect bound artbook showcasing the best of the best in BloodRayne covers and pinups from Rayne’s 3 year run so far. We’re also squeezing in some unseen pieces to drool over. The book will also feature concept sketches before the artwork was finalized so you can see the development process, plus there’s plenty of space for your favorite artist’s signatures.

Reserve your copy with your local comic shop now!

Red Blood Run #2 Incentive Revealed

BRRBR02_CVR_C.jpgThe second issue of BloodRayne: Red Blood Run is just around the corner. Apparently at Diamond as I type this, so we’re looking at an estimated October 10th release date. October looks like a double dose of Rayne with the trade paperback hitting shops the week before on October 3rd.

The cover artist, Michael DiPascale, will become a familiar name amongst Rayne fans as he’s already done the incentive covers for the next 3 Rayne comics. Also catch Mike’s cover work on the upcoming Sword of Dracula/Vampirella crossover we have scheduled for November release.

DARK 48 #1 (of 2)
by Steven O’Connell, Daniel Indro, Joel Seguin
History will come to know it as DARK 48. It all started when a terrorist cell intercepted a designer Soviet plague – a virus genetically engineered to attack the Y Chromosome of males, inducing rage. In the ‘80s the Russians had hoped the Afghan rebels would turn on each other saving them lives and ammunition. Thankfully they never used it. An ex-Russian General brought it to the attention of the CDC. They confiscated it. The terror cell got wind of it and the rest is history. We follow an all-female strike team — Battle Corp Delta — whose mission is to traverse the contiguous lower 48 searching for survivors…and hopefully a cure. Written and created by original BloodRayne writer, Steven O’Connell.

COMICON: Interview with Jason Henderson

Comicon’s: The Pulse has a great interview with Jason Henderson. In the interview Jason talks about his upcoming Sword of Dracula/Vampirella: Extended and Dangerous edition, set to hit the spinner racks this Fall, plus a Lost Boys retrospective and how important it is to give blood!

1jhsodv.jpgTHE PULSE: Speaking of Dracula, how did he come to meet Vampirella in the upcoming Sword of Dracula/Vampirella: Extended and Dangerous?

HENDERSON: In this story, Ronnie Van Helsing is as usual the one who has most of the dealings with Dracula—Ronnie and Vampirella are competing for the same bounty, a vampire witness that Dracula has under protection. In this world, Dracula and the other Princes operate like Al Capone, occasionally having to move vampires under cover, fighting to steal them from one another if they possess valuable information.

Fist of Justice – Surrounded?!

FOJCHP.jpg

Been a while since Fist of Justice has appeared on this page so we thought it’d be cool to tease you with a panel from a future story. A while back FoJ was slated to appear monthly in an upcoming Image Comics publication, but at the last minute, I pulled out because it didn’t make sense to just run one story, then another like a half year later.

We had Chad Hardin (DWP #29-30) illustrate a 5-pager and he did an awesome job on pencils and inks. Eventually this short story will appear in a future issue of the Fist of Justice ongoing series, so keep watch!
